Women's Lacrosse Runs Through Camels, Hawks - Win Streak at Six
After falling in close matches to ranked opponents early in the season, the Colby Women's Lacrosse team ran its win streak to six games blowing past Conn. College and Roger Williams.
Against the Camels on Saturday, Colby ran up a 6-0 lead after the first quarter and a 11-4 lead at the break. Paced by Ally Franz (six goals, two assists) and Gianna Bruno (two goals, five assists), the Mules topped the Camels 18-6.
Pushing further south on Sunday to face Roger Williams in Bristol, R.I., Colby kept rolling. Annie Eddy scored five goals, adding to her NESCAC-leading tally of 3.56 g/game, and Bruno added two more goals and an assist. Bruno leads the conference in assists and ranks second in points.
Colby is now 6-3, ranked 6th in NESCAC and 12th in all of Division III.
Baseball Tops Bantams in NESCAC Opener
A victory Wednesday against UMaine - Farmington (14-2) took Colby's overall record to 10-3 entering the first conference matchups of the season this weekend in Hartford.
The Mules rode 14 hits on Saturday to an 8-2 victory over Trinity. Patrick McConnell led the way with three hits, and Clint Flippo's 2nd inning home run put Colby ahead 5-1. Ryan Grecco and Matthew Scibilio combined for 5.2 innings in relief, keeping the Bantams off the scoreboard and recording six strikeouts collectively.
In Sunday's double header, the hosts got ahead in both games, outpacing Colby 7-4 in the opener and holding the Mules scoreless in the second. Trinity pitcher Michael Aceto held Colby to two hits in a nine-inning complete game.
Colby is now 11-5, ranked third in the NESCAC East Division.
Softball Splits With Hamilton to Open Conference Play
With questionable weather approaching Maine for the weekend, the Colby Softball team moved their conference opening series against Hamilton up a day, earning a split with the Continentals Friday afternoon.
In the first game, Carissa Cassidy collected two triples in her first two at-bats, and the Mules stayed tight with the visitors knotted 1-1 through five innings. Hamilton was able to plate three runs in the sixth and three in the seventh to steal the first game 7-1.
In the nightcap, Colby jumped out to an early lead off a two-run double by Chloe Wilcox, and scored the game-winner in the sixth inning. Senior Sam Ahlholm pitched parts of both games, throwing a collective six innings while allowing only two earned runs.
Colby is now 10-6, tied for sixth in the NESCAC.
Men’s Tennis Takes on Babson at Home, Faces Wesleyan on the Road
After falling to Babson College Saturday with a close 4-5 outcome, the Mules traveled to Middletown, Conn. Sunday to face #16 Wesleyan. Colby took two of the three doubles matches giving them the 2-1 edge heading into singles. The Mules captured four of the six singles matches, taking home the 6-3 overall win and staying perfect in NESCAC competition (3-0). All the singles matchups went into set three besides Ben Powis taking down his opponent in just two frames (6-2, 6-2). Powis leads the way for the Mules in singles this season with a dominant 8-1 record, and the pairing of Joey Barrett and Aidan Kwong have a 5-3 record in doubles to lead Colby.
Men’s Tennis is now 6-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
The Mules Face Off Against #4 Wesleyan for Lone Match of the Week
After a busy spring break week, the Colby Women’s Tennis team headed to Middletown, Conn. to take on NESCAC opponent Wesleyan. At the top spot in doubles, Sam Riordan and Sydney Landau came away with a close 8-7 win to give the Mules their solo victory of the contest as they fell to a strong Cardinals team 1-8. The pairing of Riordan and Landau improved their record to 7-2 on the season leading the charge for Colby. In singles, Landau, Maddie Omicioli and Caleigh McClain all fought into the third set before succumbing to their Cardinal opponent. Riordan and Ellie Gershaw currently lead the way for the Mules in singles as both have 6-3 records.
Women’s Tennis now sits at 3-6 overall.
Colby Stellar in Opening Quarter, Camels Complete Comeback Against Mules
Up 2-1 after the first quarter and scoring three quick goals entering the second, the Mules had Conn. College on the ropes early up 5-1. The Camels ripped off ten unanswered goals to close out the second and open the third quarter, eventually outpacing Colby 13-8.
Evan DeVita scored a career-high four goals, including three of Colby's first five scores. Bennett Goller tallied two goals and two assists, and goalie Will Rickards recorded 15 saves in net.
Colby is now 1-6 overall and looks for its first conference win Saturday on Senior Day.
Colby Heads to Lewiston for Bates Quad Meet
The Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field teams sent their distance runners to compete at Bates College against Bates, Bowdoin, and USM. While the women competed in the 5000m for their lone event, the men competed in the 5000m and 800m as both tallied multiple top-10 finishers.
