D3 New England Championships

Starting on Thursday, May 5th, the Mammoths competed at the D3 New England Championships! The action continued on Friday, May 6th and Saturday May, 7th. The Mammoths all competed hard in a competitive meet!

Max Spelke kicked off competition for the Mammoths on Thursday, May 5th in the first day of the decathlon. In the decathlon-opening 100 dash, Max set a personal best, running a time of 11.89 seconds in windy conditions! Next in the long jump, Max set a personal best, jumping 6.04 meters (19' 9.75")! Max threw well in the shot put, throwing 10.56 meters (34' 7.75"), placing second in the field, and jumped well in the high jump, clearing 1.65 meters (5' 5"). Max capped off day one of the decathlon by setting a personal best in the 400 meters, running a time of 54.36 seconds!

Max kicked off day two of the decathlon by running a time of 18.89 seconds in the 110 hurdles and then threw 22.69 meters (74' 5") in the discus. Max enjoyed a fantastic day in the pole vault, setting a personal best by clearing 3.40 meters (11' 1.75")! In the javelin, Max only needed one throw to throw 45.15 meters (148' 1"), placing third in the field. In the final event, the 1500, Max set a ten-second personal best, running a time of 4:48! With the points added up for each event at the end of two days, Max placed seventh with a personal best score of 5,325 points, a 400 point personal best!

On Friday, Alton Machen competed in the 110 Hurdles, placing twelfth in a time of 15.47 seconds.

Henry Buren advanced to the 100 final by placing third in the preliminary round, running a time of 10.97 seconds! In Saturday's final, Henry placed seventh.

The first event for the Mammoths on Saturday was the high jump, and Cam Heafitz placed second in the high jump, clearing 1.96 meters (6' 5") on his first attempt! Gabe Dos Santos jumped well too, placing sixth by clearing 1.86 meters (6' 1.25") on his first attempt!

The next event for the Mammoths was the steeplechase, where Claire Callon ran a fantastic race, placing sixth in a competitive field and she ran a personal best time of 11:31, a ten second improvement upon her previous personal best!

In the women's 1500, Julia Schor and Ally Deegan ran in the competitive second, and fastest, heat. With a lap to go in the race, Julia and Ally both made great moves, putting themselves in the front of the field. The last 200 meters of the race were fast, and Julia employed a great kick down the final stretch, using it to help her to place second in a time of 4:39! Ally fought hard in the last 200 and placed fifth in a time of 4:42!

Anna Madden placed second in the 400, running a time of 57.52 seconds!

In the men's 800, Charlie Clary finished seventh in his heat and twentieth overall, running his second best time ever, with a time of 1:56! Braedon Fiume competed hard and placed fourth in his heat and twenty fourth overall, running a time of 1:58.

In the women's 800, Ava Zielinski placed eighth in her heat and fourteenth overall, running a time of 2:20. Margo Pedersen also placed eighth in her heat and seventeenth overall, running a time of 2:23.

Ava Tillman ran a fantastic race in the 400 Hurdles, winning the second heat in a personal best time of 1:05.06 seconds, which ended up placing her third overall!

The women's 4x400 relay closed out the meet for the Mammoths. Anna Madden led off with a strong leg, and she handed the baton to Juanita Jaramillo, who ran a great second leg. Juanita handed the baton to Katie Lingen, who ran a very impressive third leg, extending the Mammoths' lead! Katie handed the baton to Eliza Cardwell, who ran a great anchor leg for the Mammoths, bringing the team across the line in third place in a season-best time of 3:53!

We enjoyed three fun days at the D3 New England Championships and are so grateful for everyone's support at the meet and from afar!

NEXT UP for the Mammoths is the NEICAAA Championships, commonly known as the Open New England Championships, where colleges in all three NCAA Divisions (I, II and III) compete against each other. The meet will be held at Bryant University starting on Friday, May 13th and continuing on Saturday, May 14th.
