College of Science Research Award

Professor Mingji Dai was named a 2021-22 College of Science Research Award winner. The award was presented to Mingji by Christine Hrycyna, Department Head and 150th Anniversary Professor.

Analytical Chemistry Award

Professor Garth Simpson has been named recipient of the 2022 ACS Division of Analytical Chemistry Award in Spectrochemical Analysis. He joins recent awardees (and Fred Lytle advisees) faculty/alumna Mary Wirth and alums Tim Harris and Joel Harris. More about the award

ACS Esselen Award

Professor Philip Low won the prestigious Gustavus John Esselen Award for Chemistry in the Public Interest. The annual award recognizes scientific and technical work that contributes to public well-being and emphasizes the value of chemistry as a profession. Phil was recently featured on the This is Purdue podcast.

Alumnae join Analytical Board

Livia Eberlin (Ph.D. with Graham Cooks) associate professor at Baylor University School of Medicine, and Sharon Pitteri (Ph.D. with Scott McLuckey) associate research professor in radiology at Stanford University Medicine will join the 9-member American Society for Mass Spectrometry board. Senior Analytical Scientist at Bayer

Alumna Leah Riter (Ph.D. 2001) was recently promoted to Senior Science Fellow at Bayer. Leah studied with Professor R. Graham Cooks. This new position will allow her to continue focusing on mentoring junior scientists and research. This summer she will be working with Bayer lab teams at multiple sites on new analytical technologies.

Cancer Immunotherapy Treatment

Alumnus and faculty member Zhong-Yin Zhang (Ph.D. 1990) of Purdue’s College of Pharmacy and his team of researchers are further developing a potential immunotherapy treatment for cancer, one focused on the mutation of an enzyme. Read more

Science & Art

Alumna Mary O'Reilly (B.S. 1999) has combined her love of science and art to become a successful scientific illustrator. As an undergrad, she studied with Professor Jean Chmielewski and they recently collaborated on a journal cover (photo right.) Mary (photo left) has been featured in C&E News. H.C. Brown Lectures

The annual H. C. Brown Lectures will be held in a hybrid format on April 21, 2022. Lectures will be streamed into STEW 218 for Purdue participants, and speakers will present virtually. The poster sessions for Purdue students and H. C. Brown Graduate Student Award talks will be held in-person in Stewart Center. Conference link

K-12 Outreach
