This Week at Myers Park January 23, 2022

Happening This Week

New Year – New Studies, beginning January 24: New small group studies are beginning. Led by clergy at various days and times, we will examine stories of healing from the Bible in “Time for Healing” or consider Henri Nouwen’s “Wounded Healer.” Full schedule and details are on our website.

Disciple Fast Track, Mondays beginning January 24, 7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m., room 103 or online: Make time this year to read and study the Bible with others. By reading 3-5 chapters each day in each of two 12-week sessions, you will cover most of the Old and New Testaments. Experience video insights from biblical scholars, and share understanding with your peers in weekly 90-minute meetings. Details are on our website.

New - Wednesday Bible Study, January 26, live at 11:00 a.m. and viewable later: Join us as Dr. Howell talks with Prof. Jason Byassee, one of our favorite pandemic guest theologians, to talk about “Jesus and…Church,” if he needs or wants one, what we’re like at our best and worst, and more. A longtime friend of James, Jason is a Chapel Hill native, a Davidson and Duke grad, a prolific author, and a professor of theology and preaching at Vancouver School of Theology. Watch live on our website, Facebook, or YouTube.

New - Sign Up to Help with Room In The Inn, January 26: Winter has arrived and our neighbors need a safe, warm place to sleep. Come be a part of this essential ministry! We host Wednesday nights in the MPPC Outreach Center and provide 12 guests a meal, a safe place to gather and sleep, showers, and fellowship. There are several different ways to get involved in this ministry: making beds, preparing dinner, hosting overnight, preparing breakfast, or driving our guests. Our largest need continues to be overnight hosts and breakfast preparers. Click here to learn more and sign up!

New - Pastor's Book of the Month Club - January Zoom Conversations, January 27 at 7:00 p.m. and January 28 at 11:00 a.m.: Each month, Dr. Howell is hosting an informal chance for us to read a book together, listen to a conversation with the author, and then talk with one another about what we think. In January, we are looking at No Cure for Being Human, by Kate Bowler, our friend and theologian grappling with God and life while dealing as a young mom with stage 4 cancer. Click here for more information about the book club - including what we're reading in February - and the January Zoom links.
