Suzie (Head of Centre)
I have worked in Inclusive Education for over 20 years, starting in behavioural and mental health support for primary-age children and skills for independent living with adults. I later worked in a specialist primary school where my passion for 'Communication for All' began. Since leaving Wales in 2011, I have worked teaching and leading SEN provision in Qatar and the UAE, before moving to Brunei to take up the position of Head of Inclusion at ISB in 2018.
I am a UK qualified teacher with QTS and hold Approved Teacher Status as a specialist Dyslexia Practitioner. I have three UK Master’s degrees (MEd in SEN and Inclusive Education, MSc Psychology and MEd in Special Educational Needs & Disability). I am a British Psychological Society Registered Qualified Assessor, a Certified Autism Specialist and completed my National Professional Qualification in Middle Leadership with a focus on leading specialist provision in a mainstream school. My areas of specialism include speech, language and communication needs, holistic development of cognitive functions and social, emotional and behavioural support.
During the weekend I enjoy exploring the beautiful sights of Brunei with my husband and spending time with our five adorable dogs. I have two grown up children and one grandchild.
Arlene (Senior Teacher)
Being a Special Education Teacher is not just a profession, but it is a calling and a rewarding commitment. Seeing our children make small steps towards independence is the biggest motivation in my professional life.
I have been working as Special Educator for more than 20 years. I worked in the Philippines for 6 years then I moved to Brunei in 2003 where I continue to widen my knowledge and expertise in Autism.
I am happily married to Alex who also works at the Centre. We have 2 daughters who have followed our footsteps, as they have chosen their careers in the field of Special Education. We have a son who is with us here in Brunei. I love to cook, bake and make DIY crafts in my spare time.
Nabeela (Lead Therapist)
I've been working in special education for number of years in Brunei after completing my Master's degree in Clinical Application of Psychology in the UK. I am a firm believer of loving the life you live and living the life you love and joining the new Centre team has been an incredible experience.
My work is a highly rewarding journey; I thrive on being able to witness all the children's progress and milestones. Being greeted with smiles and receiving positive feedback is my source of motivation despite how challenging the work can be sometimes. I can truly say, I am lucky to be working with such wonderful and kind hearted children.
Alex
I have been working with Individuals with Autism since 2008. I started as a Therapist/Teacher for the Early Development Class and for the Pre Vocational Class at SMARTER BACA ( Brunei Autism Center for Adults). I became Assistant Head Therapist and worked closely with our team in the administrative and center planning. In 2018 I set up the first Government funded Center for Intellectual Disabilities in the Philippines. I was the Administration Head and Director of Clinical Practice. I was in charge of providing a developmental curriculum and individualised program plan for each learner as well as training teachers and family members on “How to deal with Special Needs Children”.
I am happily married to Arlene who also works at the Centre. We have 2 beautiful daughters and a handsome son.
Safia
I joined the Centre for Inclusive Learning's team in February 2021 as an Inclusion Assistant. I hold a Master of Teaching degree from UBD. My favourite parts of working at the Centre are my interactions with my colleagues and our wonderful students. As I work at the Centre, being able to see the children's growth is what motivates me to keep working and building my specialism in this field.
My hobbies include reading books and spending time with my cats.
Ammar
I have been part of the Centre team since February 2021. Having prior experience of being in mainstream education; working with children who have special needs further enhances my awareness and understanding of individual strengths and needs. Seeing and contributing to the progress the children make and the pure joy on their faces at the Centre is a daily motivator for me to carry on with this rewarding journey.
At the weekends, I enjoy spending time with family, friends and my cats!
Atekah
I have been involved in the educational sector for over 5 years and I graduated from Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College, Bachelor of Religious Teaching (Syariah) in 2015.
I joined the Centre team in February 2021 and really love working with our students. I love interacting with them, I love learning from them, I love helping them understand different activities and I love when we see their improvements.
I am in a relationship and I’m a cool auntie with 15 nieces and nephews! I enjoy hiking and baking over the weekend.

I have been working with children for over 10 years, including being a Learning Support Assistant at ISB KB for 5 years. I have a passion for teaching phonics and early reading to children who learn in different ways. I have always enjoyed helping the children in my care to learn and grow.
When I’m not working, I enjoy cooking, baking and spending lots of time with my family.
Zila
I have been associated with the area of early education for over 4 years and I hold a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from UBD. During my teaching years, I have developed an excellent eye for detail. Watching children grow as we plant the seeds in them is the greatest achievement that can be rewarded. As the quote says, ''It takes a big heart to shape little minds''
I joined the team in August 2022 and I am eager and ready to walk my journey with the team in supporting the children’s learning and growth.
In my free time, I enjoy indulging in diamond painting and scrapbooking.
