As seniors make decisions about colleges, some of Pinewood’s student athletes have committed to certain schools to continue pursuing their sport. This semester, seniors Aidan Mahon and Emily Lee were recruited by colleges to pursue basketball at the collegiate level.

Question: Where will you be going, and what will you be majoring in?

AM: I will be going to Pacific University Oregon for kinesiology. Hopefully, this major will get me into athletic training.

EL: I will be majoring in biology at Pitzer.

Question: Was there any specific reason you chose your respective college?

AM: I chose Pacific University Oregon to play basketball and also because it has a good program for my major. More importantly, it has a very pretty campus and supportive students and faculty.

EL: I chose Pitzer because I strongly feel that it is a very supportive community.

Question: How do you expect the level of play to be different at the collegiate level?

AM: I think the level of play will be a lot harder and will require more commitment, but I’m ready for it. I need to work a lot harder and a lot more frequently. I will be playing against 18 to 24-year-old students, so it’s going to be a challenge to match their speed and strength right away.

EL: I think it’s going to be incredibly different playing outside of the Pinewood girls basketball system. The most challenging thing that I may come across is finding my role on my new team just like how I found my role on the Pinewood girls basketball team.

Question: How do you think college life will be different?

AM: College life will be a lot more different than high school. I will live on campus and not be able to see my family for a while. I will also have to make new friends and learn about the surrounding area, but I will adjust to that by going to school events to meet people and learn about the community.

EL: I think college life will be both a fun and incredibly significant part of my life. I feel that in college there will be way more responsibilities for me, as well as the fact that I’m going to have to start making decisions for myself.

Question: What do you think you will miss most about Pinewood?

AM: I will miss my friends and all the fun memories I’ve made on campus.

EL: What I will miss the most is playing for the Pinewood girls basketball team and for coach Doc Scheppler. I dedicated and committed myself to the team the moment I decided to come to Pinewood. I wouldn’t be the person that I am today if it weren’t for all of the experiences and life lessons that I learned from being a part of this team.

In November of 2021, three other seniors committed to Gonzaga University, Cornell University, and the University of Washington to play their respective sports. Scan the QR code below for more or click this link:
