Monkton Park Newsletter Friday 20th May 2022

What an incredible week it has been! Thank you to everyone who attended our OPAL parents event this afternoon to see the amazing play opportunities that the children now have. Yesterday saw our choir get to attend Young Voices in Birmingham alongside 5000 other children. Huge thanks to Mrs Taylor for all the rehearsal work with the choir and to Mrs Bevan for accompanying the children on the trip. On Tuesday some of our Y6 performed at the dance festival in the Neeld Hall and all did amazingly well.

OPAL Family Event / Sport for Champions and OPAL Fundraising event

Thank you to all the families who attended our Family OPAL event today. It was fantastic to see so many of you and the children really enjoyed sharing their play experiences with you. Thank you also for your donations – these will be well received by the children.

Linked with this, we are very excited to be running a Sport for Champions / OPAL Fundraising event on Thursday 30th June. All the children will take part in a fun fitness circuit led by an elite athlete who will then deliver an assembly to talk about their career and medal winning competitions. From the monies raised, we will be further developing our grounds and purchasing new equipment for our OPAL initiative. A contribution will also be donated to support up-coming athletes.

On Monday the children will bring home sponsorship forms with all the information you need. We are very grateful for your support and look forward to a very successful event. There is also an option to donate online if families would prefer this to collecting sponsors. Please follow the link below.

Again a huge thank-you for all your support.

FOMPS Scarecrow Trail

Scarecrow Number 1, created by Rabbits' class

The Monkton Park Royal Scarecrow Trail is finally here! We hope to see you all out enjoying the Scarecrows over the weekend. We will be holding a barbeque on the Saturday, and refreshments will be available all weekend. It's not too late to bring us you cake creations to sell; we'll be at the school 10am-5pm Saturday and Sunday (but easy on the buttercream as it doesn't like the sun).

Thank you to all our sponsors and prize donors this year.

Also, thank you to all those who have volunteered to help over the weekend; it really is appreciated.

If you want find out how you can help with our future events, or how you can get involved in FOMPS, come and speak to us over the weekend or email fompspta@gmail.com

Outdoor Day Jubilee Celebration

On Thursday 26th May, we will be hosting a whole school outdoor classroom day with a royal theme, to celebrate the Jubilee. Activities will include crown making and a royal cream tea around the campfire!

There is no need for your child to wear school uniform on this day. Please ensure your child wears suitable clothing and shoes for outdoor activities, that you don’t mind them getting muddy!

Our fire in the wildlife area will be lit all day, so any donations of firewood will be gratefully received. Please contact Mr Slee in Squirrels or the school office.

Fieldmice - Requests

Young Voices

Report by Heidi & Elise

"The Young Voices night was awesome! There were loads of special guests including the Beatbox Collective and the amazing Yolanda Brown on the Saxophone. As the original concert had been postponed due to COVID, we had well over 6 months to practice. It was definitely worth the wait. Two of our favourite songs were 'Pop Medley' and 'Power in Me'. We also had some really funky moves to learn to the songs and we were helped by the Urban Striders who were epic!"

Dynamo Cricket Festival

Well done to both teams who took part in the Cricket festival last Friday. Both teams played some great cricket with the red team narrowly missing out on a place in the Winners’ pool after losing a Super Over decider by 6 runs to 7. Both teams were a credit to the school.

Chippenham Sports Partnership Dance Festival – Top of the Pops

Congratulations to our dancers who performed to a sell-out audience at the Neeld on Tuesday evening. They opened the show with their dance to Wham’s ‘Wake Me Up’ capturing everyone’s attention with their energy and moves. Special thanks to Jax from Jaxdance for her incredible choreography and to all the organisers and sponsors of this very special event.

Kit Reminder

A reminder to all those who took part in the Cricket and Dance Festival to please return kit/t-shirts on Monday please.
