How to Get a 5 in AP Tie-Dye chemistry in action!

Step 1: Soak T-shirts in sodium carbonate so the dye will stay on the fabric.
Step 2: Wait patiently for about 5-10 minutes. Pass the time by admiring the magic of chemistry.
Step 3: Wring out the T-shirts before tying your pattern.
Step 4: Grab some rubber bands and get tying! There are many tie-dye patterns to choose from, but choose wisely. This is no longer amateur hour. This is AP Tie-Dye.
Step 5: Once you have tied up your t-shirt, all you have to do left is add the dye. Creativity is key here, and a well executed tie dye will leave the AP graders speechless.
Step 6: Make sure to use just enough dye. Too little, and there are white spots left over. Too much, and the dye will run into other colors.
Step 7: Once you are satisfied with your design, find a sophomore with an A+ in AP Chemistry to put your A+ AP Tie-Dye shirt into a plastic bag to bring home. Assert dominance.
Pro-tip: Remember chemistry teachers love to see their students applying chemistry in real life, so make them smile by not getting dye on anything but the shirt.
Step 8: Clean up your area! Wipe up any dye left on the counters. Reflect on your AP Tie-Dye experience overall, and smile because you know the College Board will be proud.
Congrats! Now you've tie-dyed your very own shirt. While you wait until July for your AP test results, find time to wash your shirt in hot water and wear it to the final for some extra credit.
