Dragon Journal MAY 19, 2023

Dear Schroeder Community,

It has been a pleasure to serve as the Schroeder Elementary School Principal for the last 15 years. I am excited to move into the position of TSD Director of Employee Services, but will be sad to leave Schroeder. With that being said, I am happy to announce that Mrs. Lindsay Keegan has been hired as the next principal at Schroeder Elementary School.

As a principal, it is rewarding to watch teachers grow and develop professionally. I am proud of the leadership and contributions that Mrs. Keegan has made at Schroeder. Throughout her time at Schroeder, Mrs. Keegan has helped make Schroeder an incredible learning institution. Here are just some of her contributions as a fourth grade teacher and literacy specialist:

  • Head Teacher (Serves in principal duties)
  • Dragon Den Coordinator
  • Literacy Coach
  • District Literacy Team
  • Staff Professional Development Facilitator
  • Served on numerous district leadership committees
  • Student Support Team Member
  • Schroeder Teacher Interview Team Member
  • Create Building Schedules

Mrs. Keegan has demonstrated excellence as a teacher leader and that success will continue as the Schroeder Principal. I am excited to continue to watch Schroeder progress under her leadership. Our staff has done some exceptional work and that will continue in the future.

Please read the welcome letter from your new principal, Mrs. Keegan.

Sincerely, Mr. Canfield

Schroeder staff welcoming our new principal at the TSD Board meeting May 16th.

Field Day Volunteers Needed! - Field Day is being held on Monday, June 12th. Many volunteers are needed to make this day possible. The activity station and a description of that activity will be provided ahead of time. Please meet in the gym at 12:15pm for a quick briefing and then Mr. Van Houzen will guide you to the proper station. Field Day is truly one of the most exciting days of the school year for our students, and we will need to reduce the number of stations if there are not enough volunteers. Questions? Please contact Mr. Van Houzen at JVanhouzen@troy.k12.mi.us. Please click on the following link to secure your timeslot.

1st Day School Supplies - In previous years, our school has provided an option for ordering your child’s suggested back to school supplies. Please know that these are suggested school supply items. If you are ordering school supplies for your child, you have two options. Option one: Parents may visit the Schroeder website and purchase the items on their own at the store or online. Option two: Parents may use the 1st Day School Supplies service and that company will deliver the school supplies to your home. No shopping for parents! The deadline to order supplies from 1st Day School Supplies is June 30th. Read below and visit the link for more information.

Employment Opportunity for 2023/2024 School Year - Schroeder is looking for a few people to join our Noon Aide team! This is a paid position that involves supervising and assisting our students in the cafeteria and on the playground during lunch and lunch recess. If you are interested in learning more about this position, please email Gretchen at gohman@troy.k12.mi.us.

Congratulations to Mrs. Becky Murphy, Schroeder's Principal's Secretary and Mr. Eric Adams, TSD Bus Driver on their Support Staff of The Year Nominations. They were recognized by Schroeder families for their incredible efforts, dedication and contributions to our students and community. Thank you for all you do!

Mrs. Murphy was nominated by the Ondra family and Mr. Adams was nominated by the Grech family.

En Garde! Congratulations to Lucy Boike for taking 5th place in the Youth12 fencing bracket and taking home 1st place in the Youth10 fencing bracket at the Bill Starr Memorial RYC Tournament in St. Louis! Lucy has been fencing for only 3.5 years and is a natural at the sport. Way to go, Lucy!

The Schroeder PTO Board needs your help! - During the summer, the PTO Board will be working hard to gather sponsorships for Jogathon t-shirts and donations for prizes for our runners. If you or someone you know is interested in any of the following, please contact Anne Barauskas at annesheckell@yahoo.com.

  • T-Shirt Sponsors: This is a great way to advertise your business AND support our school! Sponsorships make it possible for each Schroeder student and staff member to receive a FREE Jogathon T-Shirt. This helps us put all money raised right back into our school.
  • Prize Donations: Running and fundraising is hard work! We offer prizes to our Schroeder students for their hard work in making our Jogathon a success.
  • Volunteer: Many hands make light work! We would love to have a Jogathon Committee to help make the 2023 Jogathon a success. This is a great way to meet other Schroeder families and see what the PTO does to help our school.

A message from Schroeder PTO - The Schroeder PTO would like to thank the many organizations and families for their generous donations for Teacher Appreciation Week.
