Plunkett Post Term 1 Week 2 2023

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Welcome back to all our students for 2023. I want to also take this opportunity to welcome our Kinder students to Nowra Public and also any new students that have started with us. It is lovely to have you and your families joining our school community.

All students started straight into their new classes this year – everyone seems to have settled well. Our Year 3 students have made the transition from the Infants site with ease and are enjoying the different facilities available on the Primary site.

This year promises to be a big year for our school. As a school, we are focusing heavily on implementing and teaching from updated English and Maths syllabuses for K – 2 and preparing to implement and teach from updated English and Maths syllabuses from next year.

Afternoon Pickup: I want to take this opportunity to remind parents about pick up procedures for the school. On the Infants site parents can collect students from the top gate in Plunkett St or the gate in Osborne St. On the Primary site students can be picked up from the Berry St gate. Support Unit students can also be collected from the front gate in Plunkett St. The front gate should only be used by students using the crossing to walk home or meet parents at the Infants site. There are bus zones outside the school and rangers and police do patrol and book cars parked incorrectly around the school.

Parent Code of Conduct: Attached to this email is the Parent Code of Conduct developed by the P&C in 2019. Please take the time to read this.

Contacting the school: If you have an issue you wish to discuss there is a procedure we ask you to follow to ensure the problem is solved promptly. Your first contact should be your child’s teacher, then the Stage Assistant Principal (AP). If you are still needing to discuss the issue then you can make contact with our Deputy, Mr Brad Tate. I, as Principal, often need to remain impartial with issues to ensure a fair and equitable decision is made.

We look forward to a happy and productive year with your children and having the opportunity to meet you all throughout the year,

Nicole Humphreys, Principal

Sports House Captains 2023

Friday 3rd Feb saw Stage 3 vote for Nowra PS House Captain for 2023 which saw a fierce battle between two of the candidates for Kookaburra which results in a tie twice. We would like to congratulate all our successful candidates and we thank all our candidates who raised their hands and were willing to step up and represent our school.

Welcome to Kindy
P & C News

First of all, a huge THANKYOU to our past executive committee, Harry, Beck, Angela, Melanie and especially the president Kate. You all went above and beyond to support our school community and continued this support as we navigated the dreaded covid over the past 3 years which proved to be quite challenging but hey we got there! Thankyou from the bottom of our hearts for the many contributions to our school, like the playground on the infants side, funding for MADDEN, the grandstands on the primary site, the many opportunities provided to the students and so much more. Kate, your dedication and support as president for the NPS community is and always will be valued and appreciated. We all wish you luck on your new adventures.

The new committe; Samantha Campbell, Rebecca Jamieson, Katrina Morris, Lyndall Adams & Melissa Van Luyt. Below is a little bit about each of us.

Sam - President

I am a mum of three, with 2 of my kids attending NPS. I am a casual SLSO at a nearby school and this is my dream job. I am so excited to work with and support the school, the staff and the community over the next 12 months. To the exec team, thankyou for putting your hands up, can't wait to see what 2023 brings us and what we will achieve together.

Beck - VP

I have been on the P&C since Laylah started kindy in 2016, I have been the VP for many years now I want to say atleast 4yrs maybe? Laylah is off to High School this year and Ruby will be year 3 so I have 4 more years to go.

I've helped out a lot with fund raising until covid hit. And help do mothers and fathers day stalls etc.

Katrina - VP

I have only been involved in the P&C since last year after hubby got a posting back in Nowra. I have two girls Jasmine who is about to finish year 6 and Taylor who is in year 4. I'm looking forward to helping out when I can.

Lyndall - Treasurer

I have been involved with the P&C for the past 3 years (although not much involvement due to COVID). I have one daughter, Georgia, who is heading into year 3. I’m looking forward to having an executive role and hopefully 2023 brings a nice active year.

Mel - Secretary

I have a child in year 1 and one in Year 2. I wanted to know more about the school and how they run/sort activities out and decided to attended my first P&C where I was thrown in the deep end and came out as Secretary. However, I am excited to see where the year will go with less restrictions!

We all look forward to welcoming old and new faces to our meetings for 2023. Our first meeting for the year will be in week 3 of this term, Wednesday 15th February at the library. Hope to see everyone there. Here’s to a fabulous 2023 filled with lots of fun, happiness and learning.
