Author Post One: The Foodie Dietitian

The Foodie Dietitian is a nutrition blog created by Kara Lydon, a registered dietitian nutritionist, certified intuitive eating counselor, yoga teacher, and the owner of Kara Lydon Nutrition. Kara works alongside two other women on this blog, Jean Liu and Alix Eve Schram. Jean and Alix both earned their Master's Degree and are registered dietitians as well as Licensed dietitians (Nutritionists). The first thing that drew me into this blog over others was the fact that it was run by three women of although similar backgrounds, do have their differences in methods which makes this blog very approachable for all different walks of life.

On The Foodie Dietitian, there are various different kinds of posts which I appreciate because it means that there is something for everyone to read and enjoy. Some of the posts you can find on this blog include, but are not limited to: healthy air fryer recipes, navigating eating during the holidays, intuitive eating books for self help, and living a balanced lifestyle. I enjoy this blog a lot because I truly feel like it aligns with my lifestyle very well and is something that I can relate to. At the core of this blog, it is Kara, Jean and Alix’s mission to prove that living a healthy lifestyle does not need to be so strict and rigid. They are living proof that a healthy lifestyle can be peaceful, enjoyable and most importantly, sustainable. The authors write in a way that is approachable and almost, very personal and I think this is important because it makes people want to read. Adopting a new lifestyle can be very overwhelming and I think the way these authors write and share their knowledge makes this change easier and less scary.

Examining the blog as a whole, I really enjoy the way that it was designed. It is bright, full of fun colors and pictures, just overall very pretty to look at. Not only this, but I find the site very easy to navigate. This was something I really appreciated about The Foodie Dietitian because I know for me, even if I am reading something I enjoy the content of, if the site is not easy to navigate I am a lot less likely to return to that website at all. The way The Foodie Dietitian was designed looks very sophisticated and clean. There is so much valuable content but it is organized in such a way that it is not all thrown in your face at once so you don’t get overwhelmed. In each sub tab, there are even filters so that you can check off what you do or do not want to view so that filing through the different posts is trimmed down to your liking. Looking at The Foodie Dietitian makes me want to incorporate more pictures into my blog for my viewers that prefer to look and learn from pictures.

Looking at the content itself, the information posted on the blog is reliable. The authors of the blog are certified by their credentials and along with putting all their knowledge into the blog, they also use outside sources in some of their posts which are linked or embedded into the text. I think this makes the blog feel very trustworthy for its readers and makes them want to come back and learn more. Not only do I find this a key way that the authors engage really well, but another way I see them engaging is by taking the time to communicate with their readers and comment back to them. They take reader’s opinions openly and share theirs back and I definitely think this is something I will use in my blog moving forward.
