Men's Soccer Wins Both Matches, Now Ranked 6th in NESCAC
Colby topped the University of New England Tuesday by a score of 4-0. Junior Josh Rubin netted two of the goals, while Ethan Franco connected for his fifth of the year and Max Farner tallied his first goal of the season.
On Saturday, the Mules celebrated the dedication of the Mark R. Serdjenian Field, honoring the long time coach who had such a significant impact on the soccer program and the College. It was Rubin once again who led the Mules, bookending the halftime celebration with his fifth and sixth goals of the season and leading Colby to a 2-1 win over Hamilton. Rubin is currently the leading goal scorer in the NESCAC.
Colby now totes a record of 4-3-1, good for 6th in the NESCAC.
Field Hockey Splits on the Week, Shaw Tallies Four Goals
Colby topped Saint Joseph's College earlier in the week by a score of 4-1. First-year Pernilla Shaw connected for a hat trick, and sophomore Lillian Kistner added her third of the season.
Saturday, Colby fell to Hamilton College 4-1, but Shaw once again found the back of the cage, giving her four on the week.
The Mules now sport a 4-2 record, good for 8th in the NESCAC.
Men's Cross Country Finishes 2nd at Maine State Meet
In a field of 11 Division III teams from across the state of Maine, Tyler Morris and Ben Mellor took the top two steps of the podium in the Maine State Meet hosted by Bates College. The Bobcats edged the Mules for team scoring, but Colby placed four athletes in the top-10, continuing to ramp up for postseason competitions.
Women's Soccer Earns Tie Against Bowdoin on Senior Day
Playing in front of a Homecoming crowd Saturday on the newly dedication Mark R. Serdjenian Field, the Mules battled the Hamilton Continentals tough. The 1-0 Continentals victory helped the unit remain undefeated on the season (7-0-2).
On Sunday, Colby celebrated Senior Day, highlighting Mannon Frykholm, Jackie Himel, Alessandra Marciano, Juliette Nadeau, and Charlotte White. Goalkeepers Ashley Boardman and Emily McMaster combined for nine saves, and the 0-0 tie marked the third straight tie between the Mules and the Polar Bears in their last three meetings.
Colby is now 3-3-2 overall, and ranked 10th in NESCAC.
Women's Cross Country Places 2nd at Maine State Meet
In a field of nine Division III teams from across the state of Maint, Colby finished behind Bates College in the Maine State Meet hosted at Pineland Farms. The Bobcats were running on their home course, but the Mules placed four athletes in the top-12, led by first-years Lindsay Michels (3rd) and Claire Beebe (5th).
Volleyball Falls on the Road to Cardinals, Camels
Playing without their leader in kills (Hannah Wyllie, injury), the Mules took on the Cardinals of Wesleyan University Friday night and the Camels of Conn. College Saturday. Wesleyan, currently boasting a 9-1 record, took the Friday night match in straight sets.
The Mules bounced back Saturday, taking every set to the limit against the Camels, before falling 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 23-25, 19-25).
Colby currently holds a 6-5 record, ranking 9th in the NESCAC.
Hamilton Scores 27 in 2nd Quarter, Pulling Away From the Mules 27-14
Coming off one of the biggest wins in program history, Colby welcomed the Hamilton Continentals on Saturday for Homecoming. Taking a scoreless game into the second quarter, Hamilton strung together four 2nd quarter touchdowns to take a 27-0 lead into halftime.
The Mules responded with two scores in the third, with Devin Marrocco scoring his second rushing touchdown of the year followed by an 18-yard receiving touchdown by first-year Jack Sawyer (Matt Hersch on the throw). Hersch tallied well over 300 yards passing in the contest, going 25-39 for 330 yards and a touchdown. His lone interception came late in the second quarter, returned for a touchdown and the Continentals' final score of the day.
Colby is now 1-2 after three weeks, good for a 6th place tie with Middlebury.
Six Mules Compete at ITA Regionals
The Women's Tennis team sent six individuals to Bowdoin College for the ITA Reginal Championships Friday and Saturday. The pair of Carly Levitz and Lindsey Hernandez won their first match in the doubles draw against a strong Springfield College team before falling to Jay Lu and Irene Huang of MIT.
In singles, Hernandez defeated competitors from Babson and Mt. Holyoke before falling to Anna Lowy from Tufts University. Caroline Kittle also won her first round match, defeating Isabel Santiago from Williams.
Golf Competes in Three Matches on the Week
The Mules began their week at the Mariner Invitational on Wednesday, held at the Augusta Country Club. Colby placed third in the eight-team meet, led by Jack Sullivan who tied for 7th, shooting 79.
On Saturday, the Mules went north to the Husson Invitational, placing second out of seven teams. Nolan Burke tied for second (70) as the top Colby scorer.
Sunday the Mules hosted the Colby Classic, a paired event where team members team up for a combined score. The Husson pair of Cade Charron and Pat Chantanuan led the way shooting 66. Burke teamed with Quinn Doyle to come in second with 68.
