Chestnut Route (Day 5) italy

An easy day was in store for us which gave as a late start after some decent efforts since commencing this walk

Soon after departing, we got a treat at the local church (San Maria Assunta - Renon) where it appeared they were celebrating the local Saint naming day.

After enjoying the spectacle we continued on our way until the site of the famous Earth Pyramids as per our guide book. Earlier research gave the impression that these were simply large pyramid shaped ant hills and were grossly misleading in the photos promoting the walk, but once we came across the site, we realised that these were a little more than ant hills!

Very spectacular and intriguing the Pyramids are formed over serval millennia’s under unique conditions and form cone-shaped mounds with huge stones perched on top protecting the pyramids from rain until at a certain point the stone becomes unbalanced and falls to the ground no longer protecting the Pyramid where it is slowly eroded over time by rain.

Our walk concluded with a Sunday treat and a narrow gauged train to take us back to our starting point!
