Rylstone Review Term 1 Week 10, 31 March 2023

From the Principal’s desk

Parent Teacher Interviews

Thank you to those parents who took the time to attend our Parent / Teacher Interviews. It’s a valuable meeting that helps your teacher better facilitate your child’s learning. Thank you also the teachers who stayed back after school until late over several days to ensure all parents had a suitable time to meet.

Why it’s important to go to parent-teacher interviews

Parent-teacher interviews give you a great opportunity to:

  • learn more about your child’s academic, emotional and social development
  • meet and get to know your child’s teachers
  • help your child’s teachers understand more about your child
  • make plans with the teacher about how you can both support your child
  • build a relationship with your child’s school.

If you don’t have any particular concerns, you might wonder whether it’s worth going to parent-teacher interviews but going along is one way to show your child that you’re interested in their learning and what’s happening for them at school.

Of course, if you do have concerns, it’s a chance for you to raise them with your child’s teacher if you haven’t done that already.

Rylstone P&C AGM

On Monday 27th March, our P&C had their AGM. It was a great turn out of parents and a few new faces. Congratulations to our new executive committee members. I would like to thank the outgoing committee members for their constant support and dedication to our school and students.

A special thank you goes to Ms Sandra Stroud who has held the role of president for many years and has been the driving force behind many of our successful initiatives.

Our P&C is a vital and enthusiastic part of our school and we are grateful always for the work you do.

Healthy Harold Life Education

This week we had the Life Education van here. All children got to participate in the life ed program and meet Healthy Harold. The empowering program for primary school children promotes students' physical, social and emotional health and wellbeing.

Wattle students meeting Healthy Harold for the first time

The program covered areas such as Body Matters (making healthy choices), Friendship (building friendships and caring for others), Cyber safety and for senior years, modules covering the dangers of smoking/vaping and alcohol.

Sporting Schools Golf

We had Peter from Mudgee Golf Club agree to run some workshops for us until the end of the term. All students participated and have enjoyed their coaching! Thank you Peter for fitting us in!

NAPLAN

Years 3 and 5 participated in NAPLAN. The entire suite of tests were done online except for Year 3 Writing which was still done with pen and paper. All students reported feeling very confident and calm about the tests. Thanks to Mrs Mulvaney who organised all of the behind-the-scenes administration work.

Easter Hat Parade

Don’t forget next Thursday is the Easter Hat Parade. This is not mandatory and if you do not want your child to participate, please let your class teacher know.

Sausage Sizzle

Next Thursday will also be the winning house sausage sizzle. WINDAMERE will have a free sausage sizzle and CUDGEGONG will need to pay $2.50. Just remember each child can have one sausage and if they are big eaters they may need to bring some extra food.

Anzac Day

Anzac Day falls on Tuesday in the first week back next term. Monday 24th April will be a Staff Development Day and no students will be at school. Tuesday is ANZAC DAY. As we have done in the past, School Captains will be required to attend the Dawn Service at Rylstone Memorial Hall. This service begins at 6am. All students can attend if they wish.

Captains and prefects are then encouraged to attend the march through Kandos. Anyone who wishes to attend, is to meet at the Rotunda in Kandos at 10:30am as the march starts at 10:45am and ends at the Kandos Memorial Hall at 11am.

Any students attending either service as Rylstone PS representatives will be required to wear full school winter uniform.

Holidays

I would like to wish you all a safe and restful Easter break with your family. Travel safely, stay warm and I look forward to seeing students again on WEDNESDAY 26th APRIL.

HAPPY EASTER to those who celebrate.

Uniform purchases can still be made online ( https://rylstone-public-school-parents-and-citizens-association.square.site/ ) and sent home with your child on Friday afternoons. Afterpay is now available.

A volunteer form has been sent out on Sentral with various time slots available between 1:30-5pm. If you can spare a couple of hours, your help would be appreciated. Please return form by Wednesday 5th April. Volunteer form: https://forms.gle/F1q6DM9aqz6nyxj96

NetSetGO is Australia’s official starter program for girls and boys aged 5 to 7. It’s a chance to learn the netball basics, get outside and make some friends. For a lot of kids, this is the first time they’ll pick up a netball or chuck on a bib. It’s a learning experience. And a lot of fun.

NetSetGO is divided up into three tiers: Net, Set and GO.

As you move through the tiers, you’ll pick up more advanced netball skills. One week it might be passing drills and ball games, next it could be shooting and practice matches. All NetSetGO sessions are led by a friendly netball coach, using equipment built specially for kids.
