Learning round-up

Year 3 - This week, the children carried out a practical assessment using inclined planes to measure how fair the vehicle will travel using variables. In writing we have been boxing up ideas ready to start our Amber write

This week Pine class have been fabulous scientists and historians. We staged a debate in History this week into whether Caesar was in the wrong when he took power in Rome, and in Science we listened closely to the pitch that different instruments produce. Pine class has really shown their best this week and should be very proud.

This week we have enjoyed investigating more about sound. We looked at how the size of an instrument could affect the pitch. The children also enjoyed finding out more about Julius Caesar and participated in a debate about whether he was fair to go to war with an old friend, Pompey. I am so proud of how much effort Elder has been putting into their learning this week, well done everyone!

This week we have enjoyed completing and investigation about the effects of weathering and erosion on rocks. In history we have been learning more about how the Maya were the first of their kind to create a working number system with shells, sticks and pebbles. We have also been looking at arguments for and against whether animals should be kept in captivity. Willow have been working so hard this week , well done all of you!

Oak - This week, the children have been learning about simple machines in their Science lessons. They have been investigating how these simple machines can change the force needed to move or lift an object. We created a lever and investigated moving the fulcrum closer and further away from the load to understand how much effort would be required. In addition to this, in our History lessons Oak class learnt about forced migration through Kindertransport.

This week Acer have enjoyed learning how levers work to reduce the effort we need to lift a load. They completed an investigation, looking at different ways to set up a lever and which one allowed them to lift objects using the least force. We have explored fractions, making our own fraction walls to help us to compare fractions. They have worked incredibly hard this week, keep up the great work.
