Haruv USA Report 2022 short Summary of Activities

Haruv USA is an international training institute for professionals in the field of child maltreatment. It focuses on comprehensive, inter-professional education and training for students and professionals who touch the lives of children from a wide variety of settings. Haruv USA is an initiative of the Schusterman Family Philanthropies and is located at the University of Oklahoma-Tulsa in the Anne & Henry Zarrow School of Social Work.
Haruv USA is part of the larger Haruv Institute in Jerusalem, which is an internationally renowned leader in the areas of research and training in the field of child abuse and neglect.

Haruv USA activities in 2022

Haruv USA has been gradually growing since its initiation in 2015. Throughout 2022, Haruv USA continued to expand its activities mainly in three following areas:
(1) Learning programs with partner agencies
(2) Learning programs for individual professionals
(3) Training programs in academic institutions

1. Joint Learning Programs with Partners

Throughout 2022, Haruv USA partnered with 13 different agencies around Tulsa and beyond to provide training programs for agency staff. These educational programs were specifically tailored to each agency following an agency-wide needs assessment that Haruv USA completed. Overall, 39 trainings sessions (60 minutes to a full day) were delivered in 2022. A total of 1,483 professionals took part in the trainings. The agencies included professionals from a wide variety of fields: social workers, clinicians, foster care workers, lawyers, educators, child advocators, medical professionals, volunteers, etc.

2. Learning Programs for Individual Professionals

Haruv USA offers three types of learning programs for professional audiences:
(1) Haruv on the Air
(2) professional courses
(3) workshops on specific topics

Haruv On The Air

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, Haruv USA has provided a series of online lectures, "Haruv on the Air," with thousands of participants. This program continued during 2022, although we moved back to more in-person events. During 2022, 7 "Haruv on the Air" one-time lectures took place (see list below) with 200 participants from OK and other areas attending.

Professional Courses

During 2022 Haruv USA initiated various courses for professionals from a wide variety of fields. These courses focused on different aspects of working with abused and neglected children. 6 courses took place in 2022, with 180 participants from a wide variety of settings taking part in those courses, as listed in the following table.

3: Trainings Programs in Academic Institutions

Since September 2021, Haruv USA started to give a larger focus on trainings and courses on topics related to child abuse and neglect also in the academia. These trainings include one-time trainings as well as full academic courses across various academic institutions in OK, for students from different fields. Extensive work has been done to plan and create partnerships with other academic institutions in OK, beyond just OU. These partnerships include Northeastern State University (NSU), University of Tulsa (TU), Tulsa Community College (TCC), Roger University, and East Central University. In 2022, 490 students from OU, TCC, NSU, and RSU took part in lectures and learning days on topics related to child maltreatment.
