Staples takes precaution of COVID-19 to ensure safety for staff and students By: Ava Cordella '24

In the last two months, Staples High School has had a rise in positive COVID-19 cases due to the new, highly contagious Omicron variant. However, cases have finally started to dwindle in the recent weeks. According to the Westport Public Schools COVID-19 dashboard, there were a total of 57 cases across the district last week, while the total reached only 23 this week. Still, Staples errs on the side of caution and continues to enforce it’s COVID-19 procedures.

The nurses office is constantly stocked with masks in the event that one breaks, is misplaced or someone in the building simply just needs a fresh one.
Following December break, the mask mandate has become more strict. To help ensure this protocol is followed, masks are conveniently located at the “self care table” in the nurse's office for anyone who may need an extra.
Recently, additional seating has been provided for students to eat lunch. These tables can be found in the hallway that wraps around the cafeteria. This allows for students to disperse when having to take off their mask, thus limiting exposure.
Hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes are supplied near lunch tables. These products can be used by students before and after lunch in order to properly clean their area.
Hand sanitizing stations are scattered around the school for easy access, therefore helping maintain overall cleanliness around the building.
Staples students are mindful to keep their masks on at all times while in the building, with the exception of lunch.
