Koos Buster Minister of ceramic affairs

Koos Buster (1991, NL) lives and works in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He has recently graduated from the Ceramics Department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam (NL). In his work, Koos Buster is always looking for the perfect idleness or something nonsensical that needs to be celebrated. When he has an idea he starts to sketch. He sees these sketches as an initial stage of a new idea but also as a work in itself. The 'clumsy' of a quick sketch often has the lines he wants to see in the final work.

Ceramic plates of almost everything I don't like

In our exhibition about humor in art, Discomfort, Koos showed new works from his series of ornamental plates of almost everything he doesn't like. As his subject he chose uncomfortable people like Dutch television host Johan Derksen: someone who we really don't like. But Koos' work is also humorous because of the clumsiness of the portraits and the sometimes obvious subjectivity of his choices. Because who doesn't like Cristiano Ronaldo?
