Rugby

U11A Boys Rugby v Berkhampstead

A great first game of the season, and it was a pleasure to referee. You never know how the boys will respond to playing under new rules and coping with the physical demands of the game until the first match is played. There was some good running rugby from both sides. The main difference between the two teams was the tackling and supporting of the ball carrier. Far too often, when we made a fabulous break, we didn’t have enough support runners close by. Naturally, the boys were disappointed to have lost, but there were many positives, as well as areas we need to develop. In games this week, we will focus on improving their communication in both attack and defence and work a lot harder to get closer to the ball carrier in both attack and defence.

Player of the match: Bo Raikes, for his energy, sheer competitiveness, and physical contribution with the ball in hand.

Well done to everyone who played and represented the school. Final score: Berkhampstead 10 – Hatherop 3.

U10/11 Rugby v Berkhampstead

HCS hosted Berkhampstead on a beautiful afternoon for rugby. The host started brightly but the home team's defence started well too. The game was end to end with Simon S, Arthur C and Will G leafing from the front. Our boys stuck at the task well and have good areas to work on in the coming weeks. The final result 3-8 to the visitors. Player of the match Arthur C.

Hockey

U13 v Kitebrook

The U13 girls began their season with an impressive display of attacking hockey, showcasing both skill and structure in their forward play. From the very first whistle, the team set the tone with quick, precise passes and excellent movement off the ball, leading to multiple goal-scoring opportunities. Their hard work in the attacking half was rewarded with a flurry of goals, much to the delight of the spectators.

The midfield and forwards combined brilliantly throughout the match, showing great chemistry and determination. There were standout moments where individual flair and teamwork came together to unlock the opposition’s defence, resulting in some well-crafted goals.

While the offensive play was a clear highlight, there are areas for improvement, particularly in defensive structure. Despite their dominance in possession, the team was occasionally caught on the break, allowing the opposition a few dangerous counterattacks. Tightening up defensively and improving communication will be key focus areas in training.

Overall, it was an exciting start to the season, with plenty of positives to build on. The team has shown immense promise, and with continued work on their defensive structure, they’re set for a successful season ahead.

Fencing

Last week's Fencers

Congratulations to all our fencers of the week. They’ve made a great start to the term learning new skills and improving their footwork.

Penny’s footwork flows beautifully and she is always ready to engage in a duel with her friends.

Ella has made a great start to fencing, moving well and making opponents miss when they try to score.

Nelson is our first junior fencer of the week for his excellent attacking skills, being precise with the point of the blade.

This week's Fencers

Sophie was brilliant today in Prep 2. She set the example for everyone to follow practicing how to block an attack and then score. Go go Sophie!

Emma is this week’s senior fencer of the week for carrying on where she left off last term. Great stance, good distance - excellent!

Isaac is a natural fencer - fearless in attack but ready to defend if he doesn’t score. Very impressive.
