The Foundation Programme prepares driven students for their chosen bachelors programmes at Maastricht University. Four of these programmes are:

Arts and Culture, Digital society, European Studies, and Global Studies

At the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASoS).

These interdisciplinary bachelor’s programmes use knowledge from the past as an insight to understanding the challenges faced by the world today. Concepts such as globalization, technological and scientific development, governance, diversity, and inequality will be highlighted.

Arts and Culture

This program is for students who love to read and write. Along with those who are interested in a broad range of fields. The fields of art, literature, science, technology, media, and politics will be addressed to form an understanding of their connection to Western culture and society. It trains you for taking on roles as a journalist, public historian, policy advisor in government organizations, innovations designer, or project manager to name a few.

Digital society

This programme is for students that are curious about how digitalization is changing the world, how technologies are designed, and how they can be utilized to improve humanity. This course will help students understand the history of the digital revolution and the prospects of digitalization. As well as the social, political and cultural challenges of digitalization.

European Studies

Migration, climate change, human rights, environmental sustainability, and other intercultural challenges are major questions facing Europe and the rest of the world. This programme conveys to its students an understanding of Europe from various perspectives. Students will learn invaluable analytical skills related to European internal and external political, historical, social, cultural, economic, and legal environments.

Global Studies

Students concerned about fixing global issues will find this course fascinating. Form an understanding of complex global issues from the perspective of various disciplines. This bachelor’s programme enables connects economics, politics, environment, sustainability, development, governance, health, culture, international relations, and law to global issues. Through this programme, students will understand the differences and pressures between geographical regions and groups and how people’s worldviews are influenced by them.

At the foundation programme, students that wish to prepare for one of these four bachelors programmes will have the general courses (like 'Intro to Europe") and certain specific courses namely: 'Intro to Humanities and Social sciences', basic mathematics and English Language (depending on your English language proficiency) these specific courses will lay the foundation necessary to start your bachelors programme on the right track.
