Content Info For The Week

Math (Swindell, Beasley, and Meeks):

Students will continue learning about finding slope, using slope intercept form, graphing using ordered pairs, and finding points on a line. Homework is due Friday.

Algebra I (Meeks):

Students will complete and test on unit 2 on Wednesday. We will be moving into exponential functions on Thursday. Exponential functions include exponential growth and exponential decay. Homework is due Friday.

ELA (Styron and Bright):

This week students in my class will begin by writing and presenting a blog post from the perspective of an entrepreneur providing readers with step-by-step financial advice, and they will complete their workshop 8 final assessment.

ELA (Lee):

This week in Mrs. Lee's class we will be continuing our in-class novel Hidden Figures. We will continue to analyze ways in which our central figures defied expectations for African American women at the time, including how each woman came to be employed at Langley Aeronautical Memorial Laboratory (later one location for NASA). We will also continue to view clips from the documentary Challenger: The Final Flight in order to broaden our understanding of space exploration and the importance of accurate data in space travel.

9th Grade Lit (Lee):

This week in Mrs. Lee's class we will finish our in-class novel To Kill a Mockingbird. We will continue to examine several themes that have been developed throughout the text, including the pervasive idea that, "[It's] a sin to kill a mockingbird." We will consider who the "mockingbirds" of the novel are-- how did Harper Lee develop this, and other themes, throughout the novel? We will compare the novel to its movie adaptation, focusing specifically on the courtroom scene. Students will take quiz over Ch. 21-31 on Thursday, January 26th.

Science (Carver and Lewis):

Students will be finishing up this unit focusing on Newton's 2nd Law of Motion. Students will explore stations this week over the 2nd Law and prepare them for their test next week on 1/19 & 1/20

Social Studies (MacArthur and Lewis):

This week in Mr. MacArthur's class, students will finish Unit 6 covering the Reconstruction Era of America. Students will learn about the Reconstruction Amendments, the Freedmen's Bureau, Sharecropping, and more. Students will be testing over the Civil War and Reconstruction on Thursday and Friday of this week.
