Setting Description

This term, we delved into the frightening book 'Dracula.' This book provoked imaginative discussions around the characters and how they author has chosen to portray them. We explored using ambitious vocabulary as well as a experimenting with a range of sentence openers to interest and engage our readers. Our outcome was to write a setting descriptions based on one of the scenes in the book.

As developing and widening our vocabulary choice was key component to out writing, we worked hard collecting a range of vocabulary and using the thesauruses to edit and improve it.

In Maths, we recapped our knowledge of money and statistic before beginning to learn how to tell the time. The children were able to apply their understanding to conceptual problems to apply their understanding to real life scenarios.

Science!

This term we participated in British Science week and explored the theme of ‘growth’ throughout the week.. During this week, we planted our own radish seeds and observed how they changed. We also collected plastic and discussed the schools growth of plastic throughout the week.

Music!

We have had very exciting and enjoyable time in music this term as we participated in our very first music week! During this, we learnt about how beat, pulse, quaver, quarter rest and a crochet. The children worked collaboratively to perform their own short piece.

Topic (From Whitby to London)

As part of our geography we began our topic by taking a trip to Whitby to explore the human and physical landscape of the seaside town. The children have made comparisons between Whitby and London to help them gain a deeper understanding of two very different places. As well as developing their knowledge, they have explored using an atlas to source maps to compare how places have changed over time. some amazing pieces of artwork. At the end of our unit we wrote postcards as if we had left Whitby and had moved to London. We used geographical words to describe the land use, tourism and popular of both places.

P.E

We began with gymnastic and ended with cricket! This term we have built on our balancing and performance skills before working on our throwing, catching and field skills.

The children explored how to play a game of cricket where they got the opportunity to apply their skills into a competitive game.
