Social media plea
All schools are seeing an increase in fake social media accounts being made, many using school logos, particularly on TikTok. This can be damaging to individuals and to the school as a whole.
If any parents / pupils come across anything on social media sites that they think is suspicious, or that is using our school name / logo, please get in touch so that we can try to have it taken down.
Thank you for your continued support.
Beehive
The Bumblebees have enjoyed the story of 'The Three Little Pigs'. They have made houses using different media, counted little pigs and looked at different sizes.
F1
This week in F1 the children have been excited about their new TFW story 'The Sleepy Bumble Bee.’ The have retold the story by re-enacting outside in the forest and they have learnt all the actions to create our washing line.
In our science topic we have started to look at materials. The children have been investigating metal. We have explored the properties and went on a mission to see what metal we could find inside the unit and outside. The children were using wonderful vocabulary to describe the metal such as shiny, hard, strong, and hard. Well, done children on your super work this week.
F2
This half term the boys and girls in F2 are starting to get ready for Year 1. To help prepare us, we have started 'Effective Maths' which is the Maths programme that the rest of the school use. We have been ordering numerals, subitizing and even introduced 'Base 10'. The children have taken to the new structure of the lesson well.
In Talk For Writing, we have introduced our new story 'The Magic Porridge Pot.' We started by tasting porridge and then described it. After that, we completed a story mountain and discussed the beginning, middle and end of the story. We are looking forward to innovating the story next week.
During group time, we have transformed into artists and recreated work in the style of the Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky. We have thought about how colours can represent our feelings. Next week we will be comparing the temperatures of different places on Earth.
Please remember to send your child with a named water bottle, sun hat and sun cream as the weather gets warmer. Thank you.
Year 1
Year 1 have been working hard over the last two weeks, writing non-chronological reports on creatures they have created. They have been including lots of information in their reports about these rare creatures. Why don't you ask us about our strange animal?
We have started to look at our new Science topic, habitats. So far we have explored what a habitat needs to include in order for a living thing to survive there.
In RE, we have looked at the Christian creation story and the Big Bang theory of how the world was created. We compared the two and discussed what we thought of both of them.
So far in DT, we have designed a moving vehicle that includes wheels and axles. We look forward to exploring this more in the coming weeks.
Year 2
This week in Talk 4 Writing the children have started their new topic 'The Giant's Castle'. They have designed a castle persuading others to come visit for a holiday. In maths, the children have enjoyed starting the new 'Place Value' lessons, exploring numbers to 200. In science, we have been exploring through observation by drawing a cookie and spotting theirs in the classroom. They also got to enjoy the cookie afterwards.
Next week, we will be having a Geography day exploring countries within the UK. In PSHE, we are continuing learning about how our bodies change.
Spanish Day - Friday 1st July
Our Spanish Day is an opportunity for us to practise our Spanish whilst experiencing the different themes associated with Spanish-speaking countries. We would love it if the children could come dressed in their 'holiday gear' or in the colours of the Spanish flag (red and yellow). All donations will be gratefully received by the PTFA and be used for future 'pupil-based' treats. There will be some delicious meals on offer from our Spanish-style, lunchtime menu.
We are hoping to be showcasing our Flamenco dancing on the field (weather-permitting) and each class will be entertaining us with a Spanish song.
Year 3 and Year 4
Year 3/4 have had a fun filled week, from trips to Hull Minster to a visit from the education team at The Maritime Museum. Year 4s did a fabulous job of singing their hearts out at Hull Minster, where they did Wold proud and showed how hard they have worked learning our new songs. The children loved their visit from the Maritime Museum, where we learnt about the whaling history of Hull. We were wowed by the size of the whale teeth and bones and the children showed great curiosity asking brilliant questions.
We have made the most of the beautiful sunshine, venturing outside for our science lessons investigating shadows.
Star Bakers
Year 5
This half term we’ve enjoyed starting our new text of 'Beowulf' which we have loved. We watched a few episodes to draw us in and now are starting to look in more depth at the text. Invictus has been our poem that we’ve been looking at, we’ve enjoyed finding out more about the poem and also how Nelson Mandela used this as his inspiration whilst in prison.
On Tuesday 5th July we are looking forward to going Sirius for a taster day. We are looking at the ‘Tour de France’ and this will be inspiration for the lessons.
On Monday, we enjoyed our trip to the minster to sing the songs we’ve been practising all year. It was excellent to be able to perform these with all the other schools.
Next week we are excited for our Health and Well-being day with Mr Dennett who is coming to talk about healthy eating and with that, ‘Smoothie making’.
Year 6
Since returning from the half term break, Year 6 have been busy auditioning, casting and rehearsing for their Year 6 Leavers' Performance. We have discovered many hidden talents amongst our Year 6 pupils and are extremely excited for the finished article to be shared with you. They have worked really hard and have shown commitment to the performance and encouragement to their peers - very pleasing attributes to see Year 6!
We would like to thank you for the support you are continuing to give to the children by helping them to learn their lines, song lyrics and dance routines.
Year 6 have also continued to enjoy the wider curriculum, including deepening their knowledge of WW2. We were thrilled to welcome a local visitor, who spoke with the children about the history of Wold Primary School (or Wold Academy as we now know it), and the school's time throughout the war. This was very interesting!
They have also started to engage in 'Key Stage 3 level' science, exploring the features and roles of plant and animal cells. This knowledge will be developed upon in their secondary schools. We were so pleased to see that our Year 6 children responded well to this high-level knowledge - we know that they are secondary ready!
