When looking for a blog I wanted something that was not too serious and allowed for me, the reader, to feel more in touch with the Author. I wanted to read and feel a gentle and warm feeling, as if the author were talking to me personally. I feel as though this would inspire me to really take in what the author wanted me to know and learn from them. The blog that I decided to analyze was “The Lean Green Bean”. It had a cute name, that was easy to remember. At first glance, the simple color scheme was green and white. Which is in correlation with her blogs name, “Green Bean”. I thought that was a great idea! Scrolling downward, it showed more links and photos of recipes and even sources for food preparation. On the right-hand side, she has a little bio with a photo of herself. The author is a mother of 3 and a RD. There was a ton of white space on the right side of her layout. This allowed for her recipes and photo links on the left side to be the main events. Her blog is not cluttered, and allows for the readers main focus to be on the recipes. As I clicked through her page I saw that she had a Gluten Free cookie recipe! That caught my eye immediately. I am Gluten Free and have been for quite some time now. She fills her blog with mostly different recipes, pictures, and videos. She doesn’t go into any topics further than that, however, she has “food prep” books for sale. Going further into her design choices, I think it’s very simple yet well-constructed. She allows for the top of her blog to be a place for an easy access search bar with different “buttons”. As you scroll there are many great quality photos of food and even her children preparing meals. In all I think it’s a cute yet professional layout, that allows for the reader to move around her blog with little to no confusion. Lindsay, the author of the blog, addresses the audience in such a friendly informal way. Almost as if we are her friends haha. She literally starts a piece with “Hi Friends!” I think it’s comforting considering blogs are meant to be more down to earth. Her informational tabs, like “Food Prep” are filled with knowledgeable food prep hacks and ideas. However, nothing scientific or truly informational on a deeper lens. The author honestly does not engage the readers. She talks about Food Prep for a good 5 different links. Her photos of her children are very cute, and the pictures of her food look delectable. But it’s not enough for me to want to subscribe to her blog. The last time she updated her blog was little over a month ago. Which is fine, I don’t blame her, it can be difficult to upkeep. However, her entire blog does lackluster in the end. One thing I strongly dislike about her blog is that there is far too many advertisements. They are distracting and ruin the look of her blog. The lay out is somewhat intriguing and I could learn a thing or two from her blog. For instance, she has a little spot for asking questions. I do like that, as people might want to know more about me and what I do. In all, cute blog, great recipes, but lacking in engaging the reader.
