A Note from the Principal...

Another school year is almost in the books. Again, we have so many things to be thankful for this school year and we are hopeful that next year will be a normal year! I want to wish our 4th graders and their families the very best as they venture into the middle school years. These kids are ready to continue to spread their wings and are going to do great things! A sincere thank you to all of our families for trusting in us this year to keep everyone safe. I wish you all the best this summer.

Free Summer Meal Program

There is bad news and good news regarding the free summer meal program for this summer. Thursday, May 26th is the last day for the USDA National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs. To qualify for the free summer meal program, you had two one of the following criteria. The first option was by the census map based on free and reduced percentages which is produced by the state. The other way to qualify was a direct certification percentage. Some schools in the area qualified by meeting one of the two, while other schools in the area did not qualify. Unfortunately, Loogootee Community Schools was one of the schools that did not qualify. We did some further investigating and contacted the state directly and did confirm that we do not qualify at this time. The good news is that school locally did qualify and our community is eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch from these sites. The link below provides the local schools that do meet the criteria and will be providing free breakfast and lunch this summer.

4th Grade - Middle School Prep Day

The 4th grade students had a fun-filled day of preparing for middle school. They were able to tour the middle school, meet teachers, administrators, and other staff members that will play a vital part in their education journey. They also had rotations of different activities to help get them ready for middle school. Ms. Missy Brothers, academic and behavior coach, led a station to teach students about their brain and what is going on in their brain during these middle school years. Mrs. Megan Shake led a rotation and gave students scenarios of situations that may occur during their beginning middle school years and they discussed how they would handle these situations. The 4th grade teachers completed personal interest surveys with the students to help understand and know what they are interested to help them figure out what career paths that are of interest to them.
