Football Tops Bowdoin 21-10, Wins CBB
Hosting a night game for the first time in school history, the Colby Football team overcame a 10-0 deficit in the final 23 minutes to defeat Bowdoin 21-10. Quarterback Matt Hersch scored on a 2-yard run with just under five minutes to play to put Colby ahead 14-10, then followed it up minutes later with a 19-yard rushing score to put the game out of reach as the clock ticked away.
The offense found yards tough to come by in the first half, as the Polar Bears held the Mules to only 67 first-half yards. Colby's defense kept pace, keeping Bowdoin to three points in the first two quarters.
Bowdoin scored on its first possession of the third quarter but would never cross midfield again. The Polar Bears only had possession for six out of the final 24 minutes, as Colby was able to sustain long scoring drives, moving the chains and running the clock.
Harold Alfond Stadium was packed, as the night game marked the first-ever night football game hosted on Mayflower Hill. Two years ago, Colby played the first night game in program history in Brunswick, defeating Bowdoin 47-34. The victory in Waterville marked the third consecutive CBB title to open Jack Cosgrove's tenure as the Dick McGee Head Coach for Colby Football, never losing a game to Bates or Bowdoin since his arrival.
The Mules end the season with a 4-5 record, good for a tie for fifth place in the NESCAC. The last time Colby won four games in a season was in 2013 when the Mules finished 4-4.

Ethan Franco Earns All-NESCAC 1st Team, Rookie of the Year
Sophomore Ethan Franco earned All-NESCAC First Team honors for the 2021 season. Without a 2020 season due to COVID-19, sophomores were eligible for Rookie of the Year consideration, and the conference coaches found no one to be more worthy than Franco.
Scoring eight goals on the year, Franco ranked second in the NESCAC behind only teammate Josh Rubin. He was fourth in shots on goal per game and fifth in points per game, and tied for second in the league with three game-winning goals. He was an intricate part of a team that defeated Amherst College in the first round of the NESCAC Playoffs via penalty kick shootout, netting his attempt as one of four Mules to find the back of the net in the 4-3 PK advantage. He netted Colby's first goal of the season in the opener against Thomas College, and he scored both goals at Trinity in a 2-0 victory.
The last sophomore to be named to an All-NESCAC Men's Soccer team was teammate Ethan Fabricant in 2019. Prior to Fabricant's recognition, you have to go all the way back to 2000 when Jamie Lue '03 was selected as a sophomore. Franco is the 17th Men's Soccer player from Colby to earn All-NESCAC since 2000, but only the second in that span to be named to the First Team. Andrew Meisel '13 earned First Team recognition in 2012.

In the second round of the tournament against Nazareth, Colby had four scorers in double-digits en route to a 59-53 victory. Carly Christofori and Caroline Smith led the way with 13 each.
Men's Basketball Starts Season with Overtime Win, Splits Weekend
Opening the season at WPI for the Ted Coghlin Memorial Tournament, Colby completed a come-from-behind effort against New England College. Scoring only 28 first-half points, the Mules bounced back behind three double-doubles (Noah Tyson, Will King, Davis Basich) and forced overtime. Pulling away at the start of the extra frame, Colby topped the Pilgrims 94-84.
In the Championship of the tournament, Colby faced the host team from WPI. Despite a solid performance from first-year Jack Lawson (14 points, 6 rebounds), the Mules fell by a score of 66-49.
