Dear University community,

  • Congratulations to all the recipients of our University Life Awards held this Saturday. This annual celebration recognizes student leaders and organizations for the phenomenal work they do.
  • Last week, we also celebrated Ring Day, always a moving and memorable tradition for students and their proud families. Here’s a video that helps share the excitement!
  • The end of the semester is upon us and final exams begin Wednesday, May 4, so don’t miss our Free Late Night Breakfast Tuesday, May 3 at 8 p.m. in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library lobby at 8 p.m. It’s sponsored by our Division of Student Success and free of charge for all Spring 2022 enrolled students while supplies last.
  • I’m excited to share news of the launch of TAMIU Fund$Finder, a search tool that helps students find scholarships on and off-campus. With this free tool, the universe of scholarships is open to you, including on and off-campus scholarship opportunities. Find out more at go.tamiu.edu/fundSfinder
  • Students and alumni of the TAMIU Border Lit Project delivered 100 children’s books they authored to members of the TAMIU Lamar Bruni Vergara Literacy Partnership. See photos below and congratulate these students led by Dr. Kaitlyn Culliton of the College of Arts and Sciences.
  • Every day, TAMIU alumni are making a difference. What once began as a classroom assignment for alumna Angelica G. Villarreal (‘21), is now a published children’s literature book available through Amazon. Angelica’s story of her son Caleb, a seven-year-old autistic child, serves as the inspiration for her children’s literature book, “My Brother is a Superhero,” published this month. Find out more.
  • Students, if you haven’t done so yet, please complete a short survey that gathers your input to help guide our Master Plan team on future recommendations. Your perspective is crucial to planning TAMIU’s future. It’ll take less than 5 minutes to complete. Have your say here: https://forms.office.com/r/NC5yRFqg4f
  • Do you know any rising high school juniors or seniors interested in a free-of-charge summer STEM immersion experience? TAMIU will co-host this week-long opportunity with the University of Texas Health Science Center of Houston School of Biomedical Informatics June 13 – 17. Deadline to apply is May 20 and enrollment is limited to 20 students. Here’s the details.
  • Also this summer, a first-ever choir camp for high school students preparing for All-State Choir Competition will be offered here. “Sing to Win @ All-State: The TAMIU Summer Choir Camp,” is June 13-16 and will be led by faculty members Dana Crabtree and Dr. Colin Campbell, along with Camp clinicians. Here’s more on this opportunity, including registration information.
