SOS APPROACH TO FEEDING

Thursday, December 1 - Sunday, December 4, 2022, at the all-suite, Alexis park resort in las vegas, Nevada

The Sequential Oral Sensory (S.O.S.) Approach to Feeding Conference is an onsite/live training conference for assessing and treating children with feeding difficulties and weight/growth problems of all ages, with a special focus on children from 6 months to 7 years old. It integrates posture, sensory, motor, behavioral/learning, medical and nutritional factors to comprehensively evaluate and manage children with feeding/growth problems.

Conference Learning Objectives

  1. List the seven areas of human function that need to be examined to provide a comprehensive Feeding Assessment.
  2. Identify at least five of the oral, sensory, motor, cognitive or emotional developmental milestones key to being able to eat well.
  3. List three reasons why children won’t eat, as based on learning theory principles.
  4. Differentiate classical and operant conditioning principles as applied to resolving feeding problems.
  5. Identify at least four of the necessary components of an SOS Approach to Feeding program for babies, toddlers and young children in either an individual or group therapy session.
  6. List all three requirements for building a Food Hierarchy.
  7. Identify at least one play-based strategy for progressing a child up each of the 6 major Steps on the Steps to Eating Hierarchy.

When Children Won’t Eat: Picky Eaters Versus Problem Feeders Assessment and Treatment Using the SOS Approach to Feeding

The Sequential Oral Sensory (S.O.S) Approach to Feeding workshop is a trans-disciplinary program for assessing and treating children with feeding difficulties and weight/growth problems from birth to 18 years. It integrates posture, sensory, motor, behavioral/learning, medical, and nutritional factors to comprehensively evaluate and manage children with feeding/growth problems.

Intended Audience: Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Registered Dietitians, Special Education Teachers, Psychologists, Physical Therapists, Early Intervention Specialists, Nurses, Physicians, and Mental Health Workers. Note: Training conferences are created for professionals. If parents wish to attend the training workshop, they must be accompanied by their child’s feeding therapist.

Course Level: The SOS Approach to Feeding Conference is an Intermediate level course: Information is geared to practitioners with a general working knowledge of current practice trends and literature related to the subject matter. The focus is on increasing understanding and competent application of the subject matter.

Content Disclosure: The course content is focused on the SOS Approach to Feeding and there will be limited or no information provided about similar products or services.

Conference Tests and Evaluation Form Requirements: All Participants are required to take a multiple-choice test each day of the conference to verify their understanding of the Conference materials. Participants must also complete a course evaluation form in order to receive their certificate of attendance.

Upon full completion of the SOS Approach to Feeding Conference, attendees will:

  1. Receive foundational information regarding feeding development, evaluation, and SOS Treatment.
  2. Participate via live/onsite education through lectures, case presentations, and group activities.
  3. Receive a Certificate of Attendance upon completion of all Conference requirements.
  4. Have the option to be listed on the SOS Referral List as an SOS Provider (Level 1)
  5. Receive Continuing Education credits/units for those professionals who are members of ASHA

ATTENDANCE & POLICIES: In order to achieve the intended Learning Outcomes and to satisfy the completion requirements for the SOS Approach to Feeding Conference and Continuing Education Units, all attendees are expected to attend the course for the entire duration of each day (7:30 am to 5 pm, Days 1-3, 7:30 am to 3:00 pm on Day 4). Attendees will miss crucial information needed to be able to correctly use the SOS Approach to Feeding program if they come late or leave the course early. Late arrival or early departure on any day will not be accepted. Continuing Education Units and Certificates of Attendance will not be given to Attendees that are late or leave early. Please make any travel arrangements to ensure that you do not need to leave the conference early on any day. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Course Quiz and Evaluation Form: All attendees are required to complete a quiz each day and an evaluation form on the last day in order to receive their certificate of attendance.

Maintenance of Records: Let's Talk! Therapy Center and Toomey & Associates, Inc. maintain attendee records for a minimum of 7 years. Attendees can request proof of attendance and a copy of their certificate of completion from either organization by submitting an email request.

GENERAL SINGLE REGISTRATION COST: $850.00. This includes AM/PM snacks. Lunch and Dinner meals are not included. Day 4: PM snack is not provided.

  • EXTENDED Early Bird Registration is April 4 - September 14, 2022. Extended Early Bird Price is $800.00
  • General Registration is September 15 - November 14, 2022. General Price is $850.00.
  • Late Registration is November 15 and later. Late Registration Price is $925.00.
  • NOTE: A 3% Processing Fee will be added to the total registration cost.
  • Group Registration Special Pricing: For Groups of 4 or more, a 10% discount will be applied to the total registration. Group Discount Pricing is not available for late registration.

AS OF NOVEMBER 25, 2022, THE LAS VEGAS FEEDING CONFERENCE HAS REACHED CAPACITIY. REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED.

Cancellation of Registration by Registrant – Policy: All requests for changes and cancellations must be submitted in writing on institutional/company letterhead by email to info@LetsTalkTherapy.com. In the subject area, please note SOS Feeding Conference Las Vegas Cancellation. All refunds are subject to a $50 processing fee. Registrations may be substituted for another attendee. Let's Talk! Therapy Center must be notified of substitutions at least 48 hours in writing (email acceptable) before the start of the event otherwise the substitution cannot be honored.

  • Timeline for Cancellation/Refunds:
  • Postmarked by September 15, 2022: Full Credit/ Refund (less $50 processing fee)
  • Postmarked September 16 – October 31, 2022: 50% credit/refund (less $50 processing fee)
  • Postmarked November 1, 2022 or later: No credit/refund.

Cancellation of the Event by Toomey & Associates, Inc.: Please be aware that Toomey & Associates, Inc. will present this conference despite one or even two Speakers being ill. One SPEAKER can present in an emergency situation, although it is certainly not ideal. If all three Speakers are ill, substitute SPEAKERS will be sent. If all 3 Speakers are ill and no substitute Speakers are available, this would then constitute a SPEAKER cancellation.

Cancellation of the Event by Let's Talk! Therapy Center: If the conference is cancelled by Let's Talk! Therapy Center due to, but not limited to, the following: Limited Enrollment; Severe Weather (snowstorm, flooding, etc.); Conference site issues (power outages, emergency situations). Registrants will receive a full refund of their registration fee within 30 days of the originally scheduled conference by the method that the registrant used to pay for the registration. (If payment was received by credit/debit card, the refund will be refunded to the original credit/debit card used, if payment was received via a check, a refund will be provided by check.) Costs incurred for nonrefundable travel arrangements or other related individual expenses will not be refunded by Toomey & Associates, Inc. or Let's Talk! Therapy Center.

Dr. Kay A. Toomey: Pediatric Psychologist; President of Toomey & Associates, Inc.; Clinical Consultant to the Feeding Clinic at STAR Institute for Sensory Processing Disorder

Dr. Kay A. Toomey is a Pediatric Psychologist who has worked with children who don’t eat for almost 30 years. She has developed the SOS Approach to Feeding as a family-centered program for assessing and treating children with feeding problems. Dr. Toomey speaks nationally and internationally about her approach. Dr. Toomey helped to form The Children’s Hospital – Denver’s Pediatric Oral Feeding Clinic, as well as the Rose Medical Center’s Pediatric Feeding Center. Dr. Toomey co-chaired the Pediatric Therapy Services Department at Rose Medical Center prior to entering private practice. Dr. Toomey acted as the Clinical Director for Toomey & Associates, Inc.’s Feeding Clinic for six years and SOS Feeding Solutions @ STAR for eight years. Dr. Toomey is currently the President of Toomey & Associates, Inc., and acts as a Clinical Consultant to the Feeding Clinic at STAR Institute.

Lindsay Beckerman, MOT, OTR/L: Pediatric Occupational Therapist; Pediatric Feeding Specialist

Lindsay Beckerman, MOT, OTR/L – received her Master of Occupational Therapy degree from Ohio State University. She currently works in private practice with children, teens, and adults with feeding challenges in their home and community as well as Developmental FX, a non-profit clinic supporting children with a wide variety of developmental needs. Prior to this, she worked as a Pediatric Feeding Specialist at SOS Feeding Solutions @ STAR with Dr. Kay Toomey and Dr. Lucy Jane Miller. Lindsay has also worked as a member of a multidisciplinary team with Autism Spectrum Disorders, SPD, emotional/behavioral disorders, and feeding problems at a residential facility. Lindsay has completed the STAR Institute’s Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 Intensive Mentorship Programs and is a certified DIR Floortime Provider. She specializes in feeding difficulties in atypical learners, including children and teens with Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD, and multisensory processing difficulties. Lindsay also serves as a board member for Charlotte’s Day, a non-profit group that helps to provide posturally supportive chairs to children in feeding therapy.

Amanda Foster, MS CCC-SLP Pediatric Speech Pathologist; Pediatric Feeding Specialist

Amanda Foster, MS CCC-SLP, received her Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Massachusetts General Hospital IHP. For over 15 years, Mrs. Foster has worked with children with a variety of diagnoses in school, clinic, hospital, and early intervention settings. She began her feeding career in 2005 at Toomey & Associates, Inc. and then moved to the SOS Feeding Solutions @ STAR with Dr. Kay Toomey and Dr. Lucy Jane Miller. In 2010, Mrs. Foster started a private practice specializing in providing feeding support for families in their homes and in community settings. Currently, she is the Lead Speech and Feeding Therapist at a multi-disciplinary pediatric clinic in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In addition to presenting The SOS Approach to Feeding with Toomey & Associates, Inc., Mrs. Foster has lectured on swallowing disorders at Metropolitan State College in Denver, Colorado. She also regularly presents on speech and feeding disorders at parent, teacher, and professional seminars.

Toomey & Associates, Inc. is approved by the Continuing Education Board of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) to provide continuing education activities in speech-language pathology and audiology. See course information for a number of ASHA CEUs, instructional level, and content area. ASHA CE Provider approval does not imply endorsement of course content, specific products, or clinical procedures. This course offers 3.0 ASHA CEUs (Intermediate Level, Professional content area). This course will focus on the treatment SOS Approach to Feeding and will not discuss other similar or related treatments. Not available for partial credit.

This live conference is offered at 3.0 CEUs, Intermediate level, OT Service Delivery and Foundational Knowledge. PD Activity Completion Requirements: All attendees are required to complete a test at the end of each day with at least 80% accuracy, as well as an evaluation form on the last day, in order to receive their certificate of attendance.
