Some great opportunities for mark making - pre writing, and writing. Reception have been inspired to make books, identify new and familiar sounds as well as use their prior knowledge to look for similarities and differences in maths. It is so lovely to see lots more of the class using the resources and applying what they know and reasoning skills to their independent play.
Picasso has been an inspiration to the world and Reception. They have discussed the strange portraits he produced, making their own interpretations. They have used a variety of different media, work collaboratively and discussed their likes and dislikes. It has been enlightening to hear their thoughts and look at their interpretations.
A lovely morning with parents - hooks into books. We encourage the children’s adults to come into school and share stories. We squiggled our way into the morning, reinforcing the new letter sounds. The story ‘ In Every House in Every Street’ inspired us to make a Reception Street, design houses, and apply our maths to number recognition . The class get to take the book home, and at the end of the year, they will have 6 new books. When they leave St John’s they will have a home library of 48 books!
Patterns are everywhere. The class designed repeating patterns, explaining to their friends and spotting deliberate mistakes. Independently number cards were ordered and using numicon to support the learning. A very productive week.
