Coker Cobras
The Coker College softball team is set to open up play at the friendly confines of the Saleeby-Stokes softball field on Saturday (Feb. 9) and Sunday (Feb. 10). The Cobras will take on Erskine on Saturday at 1:00 and 3:00 PM and the Pacers of USC Aiken on Sunday at 1:00 and 3:00 PM.
Coker kicked off its season with a pair of emphatic, late-game victories at Mount Olive on Sunday (Feb. 3). It took eight innings of play in game one to take a 2-1 victory but after heading to the seventh tied in game two, the Cobras blew the game open with six unanswered runs to take the second game 7-1.
Erskine travels to Hartsville having won three of their four games to open this season, including a pair of wins over Wingate and one win against Newberry. Last season the Flying Fleet notched a 27-17 record, with a 17-2 mark in Conference Carolinas action. Erskine was picked to finish third in the Conference Carolinas Preseason Softball Poll and they return a trio of all-conference players in Morgan Hendrix, Hannah Hogue, and Reagan Davis. Also back this year is reigning conference coach of the year Alleen Hawkins.
USC Aiken will battle with the Cobras after taking on Benedict on Saturday (Feb. 9). The Pacers are currently 1-1 after splitting a doubleheader with North Greenville this past weekend. They are coming off of a 15-35 record last season while posting a 5-15 in Peach Belt Conference play. The last time these teams squared off last season the Cobras took an impressive first game 16-1 before the Pacers fought back for a 7-6 win in game two.
