Epiphany is a season of light, discernment and revelation. I like to describe an epiphany as an “a-ha moment” or a moment of clarity in which your awareness of the presence of God is vivid. For me, epiphanies often happen in creation, especially sunrises, which signify the gift from God of a new day. These revelations of who God is also happen through the presence of other people we encounter in our lives. The scripture readings during this season in the church are all about God revealing Jesus to the world. From the arrival of the Gentile magi from the East to the manger where they recognize they are in the midst of holiness, to the baptism of Jesus, where the voice of God can be heard saying, “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased,” to the call of the disciples, to the Transfiguration, God reveals God’s presence and God’s mission in the world.
I pray that you take some time this Epiphany to be aware and be present to how God reveals God’s presence in your life. Look for the places and people of light God puts in your life, for the moments happen if we have eyes to see, ears to hear, and hearts to receive.

The Nominating Committee, comprised of Nancy Pierson, Ollie Maggard, Linnet Tse, Betsy Bradley, Jackie Plumez and alternates: Trish Patterson, Chris Plunkett and Dami Burckin, is very pleased to announce the slate for the Class of 2022 Vestry members. The committee formed a collaborative team that brought ideas, perspectives, and experiences across our Parish and communities. Thank you all for your attention and thoughts on our Church leadership during this critically important time. Just as we continue to face the challenges of the pandemic, we look forward to future growth of our Parish and our leadership role in our community.
JUNIOR WARDEN
Christina Battalia
Christina was raised in the Town of Mamaroneck, one of six children, whose family parish was Sts. John and Paul, and later as a member of St. Augustine’s. Her marriage to Ollie Maggard (one of eight and a third generation St. John’s parishioner) brought Christina to us. Christina is a mother of 3, and stepmother of 2, which she and Ollie affectionately call their ‘bonus kids’! Christina says she was drawn to St. John’s by its welcoming nature and robust community involvement. Since 2007 she has served in the elected position of Mamaroneck Town Clerk, where she interacts with the public daily, and finds it very rewarding to be making a positive difference in her community. Quite different from being Town Clerk, Christina received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Syracuse University, and continues to practice her art. She has been very active with Midnight Run over the years, and currently is serving in her first term as St. John's Junior Warden. In addition to art, her passions include cooking, reading and entertaining her large extended family.
THREE-YEAR TERM
Kelly Chubet
Born in Maryland and raised Episcopalian, Kelly’s first visit to St. John’s Church was during a college break in 2001 with her boyfriend Charlie. Fast forward to 2005 and they settled in his hometown of Larchmont and were married at St. John’s in 2009. The couple was confirmed in 2011 and their children, Logan and Lucas, were baptized in the years to follow. From the start, St. John’s has effortlessly woven itself into their family story.
Over the past two decades, Kelly has been actively involved teaching various Sunday School classes, volunteering for the ECW Christmas Bazaar, a member of the 2018/19 Rector Search Committee and has participated in Midnight Run prep with her family. Her son, Lucas, attended St. John’s Nursery School. Currently, Kelly co-teaches the 3rd-5th Grade Sunday School class and is on the Board of the ECW, heading St. Anne’s Guild.
Kelly recently served as Chairperson of the Children’s Committee at the Larchmont Yacht Club where she enjoys spending her down time. She earned a double major in Sociology and Women’s Studies from the University of Vermont. Before taking time to raise her family, Kelly worked in Corporate Equity Solutions for Morgan Stanley on the business development team handling global stock plans for corporate clients.
She is honored to have the opportunity to serve on St. John’s Vestry.
Taddy Hall
We have been parishioners at St. John's for 10 years. When we moved to Larchmont from Seattle, finding the right church “home” was as important as finding the right house “home”. From our first visit to St. John’s we felt immediately welcome. Hadley enjoyed her first day of school in the St. John's preschool, so the church community immediately played a daily role in our lives. I have served as a Lector and Lay Eucharistic Minister for several years. Pre-Covid, I was part of the Beyond Our Walls team. With Karen and the girls, we always enjoy prepping for Midnight Run – especially when we get to make the soup!
For 25 years, I have served as a Senior Advisor to Endeavor, which supports high-impact entrepreneurs in emerging markets. In this role I mentor CEOs and advise leadership teams in the growth of their businesses. This work also involves running innovation workshops for entrepreneurs in emerging markets, globally. I have real passion for economic development in emerging markets and enjoy this work immensely.
As a management consultant, my day job involves advising corporate leaders on innovation and growth strategy. The smart executives I serve always know far more about their businesses than I ever will, and the same is true at St. John's. We’re blessed to have a world class Rector and professional staff. Consequently, I hope to be of some use in framing challenges, helping us ask the right questions, and doing the work. Ideas are easy, but execution is hard, so I like to think of the vestry as a workforce at least as much as it is an advisory body.
A little-known fact about me: The 22-year old yellow clunker I drive is actually named “Sally” – so ordained by our daughter, Penelope, when she was about three!
Angela Nesbitt
I have been a parishioner since June 1991, 30+ years. I came to St. John's on the recommendation from the curate of Trinity Church Wall Street after hearing that I was moving to Larchmont. Plus George Zabriskie’s nephew is a best friend from university. Within St. John's, I am part of the Contemplative Prayer Group, and I was a co-founder of St. Teresa’s Guild. Outside of St. John’s, I am involved with the Red Cross, various alumni groups, and LYC. In my vestry engagement, I'd like to use my skills in management consulting, coaching and facilitation. I have an MBA.
A little-known fact about me: I really enjoy tango.
Lisa Young
I have been a parishioner for about 14 years. Although "born and raised" a Catholic, St. John's has always been part of my life - from dancing school when I was a child, to being a parent of two boys who attended the nursery school, I have always been aware of St. John's work within and on behalf of our communities. The outreach was visible, and as I became more aware of the way all members of the church were able and welcome to serve in all capacities I knew St. John's was the right choice for me. I am currently a member of the Altar Guild, am lead usher, and chair of the Chili Cafe. In the past I have served as a lector and as co-chair of the Nominating Committee.
Outside of St. John's I work regularly with the Larchmont/Mamaroneck Hunger Task Force as a distribution captain at the weekly food pantry and monthly fresh market distributions. I recently initiated a collaboration with Mott Haven Fridge where any perishable overages the Pantry has on a given week are donated to one of the Mott Haven sites in the Bronx. I am a class agent for my high school and college, and an occasional volunteer in other community activities.
I like to joke that my greatest professional skill is "connecting dots." One of the most rewarding aspects of working in alumni relations and development is building connections between a school and its alumni, and connecting alums of different generations with one another. Locally that might mean introducing two people with similar community service or professional goals or a friend or colleague from one arena of my life to one from another. Many a job opportunity or unimagined collaboration has resulted. As a fundraiser I have developed campaign materials and strategies for successful campaigns.
