Staples celebrates World Language week Photos & Captions by Alex Gaines

From Monday, March 14 to Tuesday, March 22, Staples celebrated World Language Week by celebrating a different language every day. Lunch food options, morning announcements and library activities were all accommodated to celebrate the different languages, including Chinese, French, Italian, German, Latin, Spanish and a general "all language" celebration on the final day.

Different kinds of buttons were offered all week in the library that translated to "I speak ___!" for each of the six languages that would be celebrated at Staples. Students could wear these buttons to show pride in a language that they were learning or knew how to speak.
Connections classes were encouraged to participate in a trivia game containing questions about different languages and cultures. The class or student who scored the most points from answering questions correctly could win a gift basket of candy and other treats.
The cafeteria served new dishes every day in celebration of the week, including chicken fried rice for Chinese language day on Monday, March 14. Other dishes such as churros, éclairs and tacos were offered exclusively on other language days.
An Italian photo booth was available in the library for Italian day. Students could pose for pictures next to a cardboard cut-out of the Leaning Tower of Pisa and use fake pieces of bread and chef hats as props.
Students sang karaoke songs in different languages on Friday in the library. Songs such as "Shape of You" by Ed Sheeran were sung in Italian for the rest of the library to listen to during the lunch period.
Several posters, some made by students, were hung up all around Staples. The posters had information about languages as well as general promotions for the week, such as "10 Reasons Why You Should Learn a Language."
