The Mammoths traveled down to Winston-Salem, North Carolina for the Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships last weekend, with competition spread across two days - Friday, March 11th and Saturday, March 12th.

Jack Trent qualified in the Heptathlon, Eliza Cardwell qualified in the 60 Hurdles, Julia Zacher qualified in the High Jump, the Women's 4x400 Relay of Anna Madden, Juanita Jaramillo, Casie Eifrig, Katie Lingen and alternates Ava Tillman and Nicole Barbaro qualified, as well as Sidnie Kulik in the 3,000 Meters and Sophie Wolmer in the 5,000 Meters.

Jack Trent kicked off the action for the Mammoths at Nationals on a high note, winning his heat and setting a personal best in the Heptathlon-opening 60 meter dash in a time of 7.36 seconds!
Next in the Heptathlon is the long jump and Jack jumped 6.08 meters (19' 11.5").

Next for the Mammoths was Eliza Cardwell competing in the 60 meter hurdles. Eliza competed in the first of three preliminary heats and ran a competitive race, placing fourth in a time of 8.82 seconds, her second-fastest time of the season! Eliza placed ninth overall, a strong first Nationals meet for the first year!

Next in the heptathlon is the shot put, one of Jack's stronger events, and placed fourth, throwing a mark of 12.25 meters (40' 2.25"). Next in the high jump, Jack cleared 1.76 meters (5' 9.25") on his third attempt, ending the first day of competition in 12th place!

The final event of the day was the women's 4x400 relay.

Similar to Juanita, Casie ran a great second lap of her leg.
Casie's strong last 50 meters put the Mammoths in a great position going into the anchor leg, where Casie handed off to Katie Lingen.

Katie Lingen ran a strong anchor leg of the relay, bringing the Mammoths across the line in fourth place in their heat and tenth place overall!

The first event of the second day of Heptathlon competition is the 60 Meter Hurdles, and Jack got the day off to a nice start with a solid time of 8.80 seconds!

The next event in the Heptathlon is the pole vault. Going into the pole vault, Jack's personal best was 3.50 meters (11' 5.75"). After clearing 3.20 meters on his first attempt, Jack cleared the next height, 3.30 meters, on his third and final attempt. He then cleared 3.40 meters and 3.50 meters on his first attempt at each height, matching his personal best by clearing 3.50 meters. The bar moved up to 3.60 meters and after two good attempts, he cleared it on his third attempt! As the bar rose another 10 centimeters, Jack raised his own bar too, clearing 3.70 meters on his third attempt to set a new personal best!
Cheered on by friends and teammates, Jack was amped to clear 3.70 meters (12' 1.5"), improving his personal best by more than six inches!

The Heptathlon concludes with the 1,000 meter run and Jack ran a great race, gradually making his way up through the field and closed hard to place second in his heat in a time of 2:50. With all of his points added up, Jack placed twelfth and set a personal best in the Heptathlon with a score of 4663 points!

The 3,000 Meters was the last event for the Mammoths, and Sidnie Kulik used the slow starting pace to her advantage. Running like a veteran, Sidnie positioned herself well in the tight field and used the slow start to her advantage, cranking down the pace after the mile mark and crossed the line in 12th place!
The Mammoths enjoyed a great trip down to Nationals and came away with great experiences and excitement for the outdoor season! We're so grateful for those who cheered on the Mammoths in person and from afar!
