Let's address some of the reasons for framing art, photos, and sentimental objects.
Preservation
Why frame? One reason is that framing protects art from dirt, fingerprints and other damaging elements.
The following old family portrait was taken in 1904, in Manhattan, New York. The dates and family members' names are handwritten on the back. This is a piece of family history as well as a view on the past. The photo has been exposed to a lot of damaging elements. Tears, creases, and brittle edges are clear.
Framing can't reverse the damage done, but it can either stop it or slow it down.
Acid-free mats and backing, as well as glass with a UV filter - such as Museum glass - will help protect this bit of family history for generations to come.
Presentation
Custom Framing helps you choose how you present your art to the world, in your home. It allows you to find the common ground between you and the artist.
While you are protecting your art, you also get to choose how it will live in your home.
The Bullfighter
When a customer brought in a set of old framed ivory sculptures they were already framed.
The original frames were beautiful, but worn. Each one measured approximately four inches square and had a piece of curved glass that would have been impossible to replace.
Rather than try to take each piece apart and risk breaking the ivory, we suggested grouping all three in one frame that brought out the beautiful features of the frames and the sculptures.
Individually, the small frames would have gotten lost on a large wall. This presentation makes a stronger statement while it also protects.
