THE MARTIN ERA
Chuck Martin grew up admiring the Miami football program for its storied history and tradition. He made it his duty to bring that winning tradition back while also upholding the Miami code of Love and Honor.
This would require a multi-year, carefully planned, and difficult rebuild. He set out to find tough, competitive, and intelligent players that would not only succeed on the field but in the classroom as well.
"I remember telling [The School President] that if he wanted the quick fix, then we could bring in transfers and flip the roster in 15 minutes and try to win now. But I said 'We can do it the right way here. I know we've fallen on hard times. But we can get great high school kids, we can do it with great student-athletes, and we can do it with Love and Honor. And we can build this thing to last.'"

THE RETURN TO GLORY
THE GREATEST IN-SEASON TURNAROUND IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL HISTORY
The RedHawks started the 2016 season at 0-6. But, things were starting to come together. Miami then won their next 5 straight and stood on the doorstep of history.
With the national spotlight on them, and a bowl berth on the line, the RedHawks came from behind to defeat rival Ball State to become the first team in the history of college football to start a season 0-6 and finish playing in a bowl game. The fans at Yager stormed the field to celebrate the most emotional victory in program history.
deSTINY FUFILLED
The RedHawks defeated Central Michigan 26-21 in the 2019 MAC Championship game. After the final whistle a teary eyed Coach Martin was asked how this championship was possible.
He responded "Character of kids, character of coaches, my kids love each other, play for each other, hell of a deal"

WE STAND UNITED
The entire miami football organization stands together against the ongoing issues of racism, police brutality, and systemic injustice that plague our nation.
coach martin statement on racism
"Let me start by saying my prayers go out to the families of Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd. My heart hurts thinking about them needlessly losing a loved one.
I am a head football coach. I am responsible for the teaching, mentoring and safety of my players. I am also responsible for being a leader on my campus and community. A leader, not only in voice, but also by example. I acknowledge that I have my own shortcomings, but that does not preclude me from trying to make a difference every day.
I have been watching, reading and talking about the protests going on all over the country. History has taught us that silence, indifference and inaction does not create change. I have read and listened to people hypothesize, question, politicize, argue and blame.
By far the best information I have received has come from talking with my players. I really appreciate how much they have helped me these past few days. The words I continuously hear from my guys when I ask them about their feelings about the protests are: racism, empathy, fear and privileged.
Racism: prejudice, discrimination against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior.
Throughout my life, I have heard that this is a “touchy or complicated subject”. People don’t like to talk about it. They make the excuse that a person’s beliefs are “genetic or because of how they were raised.”
Racism is not complicated or difficult. It is a personal choice of how you treat and interact with people. YOU ARE EITHER RACIST or YOU ARE NOT!!!! There is no gray area. You cannot tell, argue or convince someone that “you are a racist,” or “you are not a racist.” Your actions will dictate that.
Empathy: the ability to understand and share feelings of another.
I have heard for years about how it is “hard to understand what someone else is going through.” If you are not an African-American, Hispanic-American, Asian-American or any other person of color, and you want to know how they feel, YOU JUST HAVE TO ASK THEM!!! Understanding the feelings of another is not difficult, caring enough to ask them how they feel is the difficult part!!!
Fear: emotion caused by the belief something is dangerous or a threat.
Privileged: having special right, advantages or immunities.
Everyone has fears, but privileged have less fears than non-privileged. I have players that fear going for a jog or going to the convenient store. I have never been afraid of doing those things because the color of my skin somehow made me privileged.
In summation:
I am protesting racism!!!
I am protesting against lack of empathy!!!
I am protesting against people being afraid because they are not privileged!!!
I am protesting against privileged people thinking they are above the law!!!
That is my focus, and I will work hard to help in any way I can.
Everyone has to make their own choice, and you cannot fake it.
I am not speaking today on behalf of anything or anyone but myself.

dayton tornado relief
