Medellín, Colombia Futsal Immersion Days 8-10

Monday

Monday morning chill time; hung out at the apartment and played with clay.
Our cab driver loved this.................pretty sure!

Barefoot Futsal Itagüí

"Barefoot Itagui is expertly directed by Profe: Juan Sebastian Hernandez. His excellent support staff includes 2 current professional Futsal stars, one of which is on the Colombian National Team, and is a FIFA Futsal World Cup Veteran. Profe: Juan Sebastian had such strong belief in the Barefoot methodology, that he started Barefoot Itagui Futsal Academy in Fall 2014, and currently has nearly 40 students, ages 4years - 12years in the program."

Balancing a cone on their head while dribbling teaches them to keep their head up.

Makin' a move........

Tuesday

This is the coliseum in Itagüí where we've been going for Capoeira and Barefoot Futsal training.

Capoeira with Diego Hincapié

Walking from the coliseum into town (Itagüí) to our favorite traditional Colombian restaurant.
Cruise and Lydia.................."Oh Shoot!"

Colegio Corazonista

Our armed door guard letting us into Colegio Corazonista.

Training with the 05's

She makes the steal!
She thinks she can escape training............

Training with the 04's

Lydia is hiding out of view on the right side. She's annoyed I'm taking pictures. The two girls at the bottom of the frame are the two that have been keeping an eye on Lydia, this was two days before I realized the reoccurring theme and introduced them.

Students sitting near me working during their recess.

Random store on the street as seen from the taxi on our way home.

Wednesday

Beach training with Antioquia Beach Soccer Club, a professional team that travels internationally.

Training with grown men!

The young ones were a little distracted.

This professional beach soccer player happens to have the same hair!

COSDECOL

Corporación Social y Deportiva de Colombia

"Our ministry/program consists of the organization and the coaching of soccer teams throughout the lowest socio-economic areas of the city. Each team receives 2-3 soccer practices every week led by our coaches, and they participate in our own city-wide soccer league on the weekends. The ages of the participants range from 5 to 19, and include both genders."
Coach Wittig and Lydia

Lydia wasn't assigned any training Wednesday afternoon so we took this opportunity to go see Coach Wittig and train at his brothers soccer club (Cosdecol) in Bello, Colombia. Coach Wittig has taught all five of our kids at Lake Carolina Elementary, and he's the varsity boys soccer coach at Blythewood High (Derek's coach). This is probably the most beautiful setting of any soccer complex ever!

Brownie del Club

Cosdecol packages their own brownie to help aid the funding for the soccer club.

My birthday dinner!

What could possibly be a better way to spend your birthday (aside from with family) than hanging out with friends, eating, AND watching the Atlético Nacional semi-final game?!
Luke gets plastic gloves with his wings 😜
Not sure what they are up to, probably placing bets on the game.
My Chocoflan birthday cake! Have your cake and eat your flan, too. This is a delicious Colombian cake!
