Welcome to West Meadows Weekly!
It has been fantastic this week to welcome back all of our children into school after the Christmas break. I would also like to take the opportunity to extend a very warm welcome to all of our new families and children who have joined us in nursery – they have made a fantastic start this week and are settling in really well. This week we had a special visitor into school for Key Stage 2 children from South Yorkshire Police who worked with the children inassembly to develop their understanding of how to keep safe online. It has also been lovely to see so many of the classes enjoying their dance lessons in PE which have been linked to their history and geography themes. Some of our classes have also been working hard on completing their Design Technology topics and developing a range of skills to create projects with moving parts.
As I am sure many of you will already be aware, Mrs Maree is unfortunately not in school currently due to illness. I am sure you will all join me in wishing her a speedy recovery andwe hope she will be back with us after February half term. In the meantime, if you do need anything please do not hesitate to contact myself, Mr Smith or Miss Jobling.
We are excited to welcome back Mrs Jones to our Foundation Stage from Monday 17th January. Mrs Jones has been in to school recently to do some ‘keeping in touch’ days before her return and I know she is very much looking forward to seeing all of the children and families again.
We have a growing amount of lost property in the basket at Reception. Weather permitting we will put this out on tables in the playground on Monday and Tuesday morning next week for parents to take a look at. Alternatively, please come to reception to take a look next week. At the end of next week, any remaining items which do not have children’s names in will be donated to either the West Meadows Second Hand clothing bank or a local clothing bank.
Could all children please have the correct P.E kit in school for the week. All children need to be able to remove all jewellery to be able to fully participate safely in P.E lessons, including piercings. Pupils are not able to cover piercings with plasters and so we recommend that if children would like a piercing, these are done at the start of the summer holidays. If children cannot remove their piercing by themselves, they will need to ensure they are not wearing them on P.E days.
As the weather turns colder, if we do have snow, we will always do our best to try to keep school open for all of our children. However, if we do need to close for safety reasons, we will announce the decision as soon as possible on Twitter and on the Barnsley Council School Closures webpage. We will also send out a message to parents via text wherever possible.
Every Monday we will celebrate our children’s achievements, both in school and at home, including their attendance in school. Good attendance is vital for your child’s education and means they can make the most of all aspects of school life.
