4th and 5th grade students discussed the events leading up to the Boston Tea Party. They created tea pots out of clay and had a tea tasting event.

Second grade students discussed the artworks of Van Gogh, Mattie Lou O’Kelley, and Ted Harrison. They created a mural using some of the same techniques that these artists used.

First graders experimented with hand building clay techniques. They used these techniques to create a portrait of a dog.

Third grade students explored percussion instruments in music. They created their own percussion instruments (maracas) using clay and decorated them in the style of faberge eggs.

Pre-k and kindergarten students mixed primary colors to create secondary colors. They used their knowledge of color mixing and color relationships to create color wheels. They transformed their color wheels into whimsical birds.

Pre-k students created backgrounds for their penguins using a wax resist technique with crayons and watercolors.

Kindergarten students discussed the artwork of Kandinsky, and they used his artwork “Squares with Concentric Circles” as inspiration for their backgrounds.

Pre-k and Kindergarten students discussed the four seasons with an emphasis on Spring. Each class made a different flower. The flowers were combined to create a mural depicting a vase of flowers.

Pre-k students discussed the different types of agricultural products produced in Georgia. They found out that Georgia was one of the top poultry producers in the southeast. They created chickens in the style of the popular cartoon “Peppa Pig.”

5th grade students explored masks from different cultures. They used various materials to create their own masks.

4th grade students discussed illustrations from the book “Snowmen at Night.” They used oil pastels and shading techniques to create snowmen that appear 3-D. All student artwork was combined to make a 3rd grade class mural.
