Reception Class Summer Term 1 Learning Journey

We are once again excited to share our learning with you and celebrate more super progress of our children.

It has been a pleasure assessing the reading of the children this half term. Most children have moved up a colour band in their Read Write Inc books. Thank you once again for all your support with this at home.

This half term began with some new enhancements in the environment and an exciting hook into our new text.

Our Literacy Learning Journey

We began looking at the difference between fiction and non-fiction texts and found out lots of facts about caterpillars and butterflies.

We labelled the main features independently and wrote fact files about what we had learned.

We then looked at our fiction text, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and retold the story in our own words, using a vocabulary organiser.

Look at our amazing writing!

Our new Text Map is Supertato. We have been learning the story and creating 'Wanted' posters for the Evil Pea and creating our very own 'Superheroes.'

Our Maths Learning Journey

We have continued to focus on number formation, addition and subtraction with double and half numbers.

We are becoming familiar with the signs, + (add) - (subtract) and = (equals).

Our role play at the beginning of the term was a Farm Shop where we introduced money into our play, sorting coin denominations and adding values together to pay and subtracting amounts to give change.

Our Science Learning Journey

We were excited to welcome caterpillars into the classroom and have been learning about the life-cycle of a butterfly.

We created life cycles using play dough and pictures.

Our Art Learning Journey

In Art we looked at the work of Jackson Pollock and re-created some of his techniques.

Our Outdoor Learning Journey

We continue to enjoy learning outdoors, particularly now the weather is improving. We have enjoyed lots of wonderful enhancements in our texture kitchen to develop skills and continue to enjoy developing constructing on a large scale.

Attendance Awards

Attendance really does matter so well done to the children who achieved 97%+ (silver) and 100% attendance over Spring Term.

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee

We end this half term preparing for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

What will we be learning next?

Learning in Summer Term 2 will include:

Number beyond 20

Addition and subtraction bridging 10 with Numicon

At the beach / Under the sea (developing our writing further)

An Educational Visit

What to expect in Year 1

Thank you for your support this half term. Enjoy the break and we look forward to our final half term together.
