Down at the seafront in the beautiful town of St Leonards in East Sussex is a view like no other. But the town which is famous as home to kings, queens and saints, for its private gardens and beautiful coast needed some help with a home of a different sort.
The area needed a new base for two local medical centres; one working from a portacabin for seven years after a fire at their previous building; the other which had outgrown its space. Both primary care teams were long overdue the facilities and space they needed for the future.
The move would allow the practice to provide a more pleasant environment for patients, a wider range of services for the community and a better working environment for staff.
The new building includes 26 consulting rooms six treatment rooms and a training suite.
There couldn't be a more needed primary care facility right now in Hastings. Over the past few years, we've had issues that caused major problems for our patients, including a fire at our previous premises, operating out of a portacabin for the past seven years during which time several other surgeries have been closed around us. Now the coronavirus has created a completely new way of operating. Our entire team is excited and ready to deliver exceptional care in a building where we can guarantee hygiene, safety and a truly first-class environment for all patients."
Nick MacCarthy, Senior Partner at Carisbrooke Surgery.
By creating this health hub for the area, more than 20,000 patients will have access to additional care and services such as minor procedures, phlebotomy and specialist clinics for conditions such as COPD, asthma and diabetes. The space provides a flexible, future-proof environment and has already come into its own during the pandemic, providing a safer, more efficient and patient-centred environment.
The drone footage below shows the story of the build. It's created an outstanding environment for both patients and staff, overlooking this beautiful stretch of coast.
