Aldavilla Primary School Together We Learn and Achieve

Principal's Message

Education Week is an annual celebration of NSW public education and the achievements of our schools, students and education system. This year Education Week was held from 1 to 5 August 2022 celebrating the theme: Creating futures – education changes lives.

Macleay Public Schools celebrated the week with an Academic Awards Ceremony hosted by Crescent Head Public School. Congratulations to our award winners. Photos were taken by CHPS and will be released soon.

Our award recipients were:

Kindergarten – Willow D

Stage 1 – Hunter M

Stage 2 – Layla M, Gemma P and Mason S

Stage 3 – Ava M

Congratulations to Kindergarten on achieving 100 days of Kindergarten. Students enjoyed activities centred around the number 100 and enjoyed their celebratory cake.

Most of us own devices such as smart phones and some also own wearable technologies such as smart watches. Technology is part of our daily life, but we need to ensure it does not ‘become our life’. An Australian Communications and Media Authority report into how Australian children are using mobile phones advised that in 2020:

46% of 6-13 year olds have or use a mobile phone.

71% have used the phone to play games.

79% of the children that own a phone have used it to send a text message. It is a timely reminder that we need to work with our family to set screen-time limits. Each family is unique and coming up with a right amount of screen time can depend on the age of your child, the content they see or hear, their learning needs and your family circumstances. It is a balancing act.

Too much online time can have negative consequences on the mental health of your child. If you notice signs of tiredness, not doing well at school or changes in eating patterns, it may be time to have an open conversation to help them balance screen time with green time.

Congratulations to our Macleay Athletics Carnival participants. You all competed with pride for your school. Amelia W broke the 800m record on the day and Ashton S was our 11 Years Boy Champion. We wish you all the best of luck at Lower North Coast.

K-2 enjoyed their Cross Country last week. I was challenged to run the cross country by students. I did need significant preparation including stretching, visualising and motivational speakers but I did take on the course. It was very challenging! After about three days of heat packs, pain relief and rest I have finally recovered. I am looking forward to next year and will hopefully beat my PB. We have some very talented athletes in the making across K-2.

Enrolments 2023

We are currently enrolling for 2023. If you have siblings commencing in 2023 or neighbours with children enrolled in pre-school, please encourage them to contact the school. We are happy to arrange a tour.

SCIENCE DAY

Our Science Day will be held on Monday 15th August 2022. Volunteers welcome.

Aldavilla Primary School was one of 226 schools awarded with a National Science Week schools $500 grant in 2022. The grants help schools to run activities and events during the week and are coordinated by the Australian Science Teachers Association, with funding from the Australian Government through the Inspiring Australia program.

National Science Week is Australia’s annual opportunity to meet scientists, discuss the hot topics, do science and celebrate its cultural and economic impact on society.

First held in 1997, National Science Week has become one of Australia’s largest festivals. Last year about 1.3 million people participated in more than 1750 events and activities, despite a global pandemic.

In 2022, National Science Week events will be held online and throughout Australia—from butterfly botany in Queensland to bat cave science in Tasmania, and from astronomy in WA to an inflatable ‘poo palace’ in Newcastle—with everything including science festivals, music and comedy shows, panel discussions, interactive displays, open days, and online activities.

National Science Week is proudly supported by the Australian Government; and partners CSIRO, the Australian Science Teachers Association, the ABC and Cosmos magazine.
