How do I find books and other items on my Reading List?

Use LibrarySearch on your laptop, computer or mobile device

LibrarySearch makes it easy to search across most of the Edinburgh Napier University Library collections- books, ebooks, online journal articles and more. It doesn't contain all the content from all the databases purchased by the Library, but it's a great place to start. You can also use it to request or renew library items.

Just type in your keywords and click search. Once you have your results look at the options on the left hand side of the page. You can refine your search results by format, library and more.

You can also use LibrarySearch to find journals and link to full text journal articles online.

For help finding the best information for your subject, see the guide prepared by your Subject Librarian.

How do I log in to LibrarySearch or use online library resources?

Use our online resources on and off campus

Use your University login - your username is your matriculation number. If you have a problem with your password, contact IT Support (see the Computing Services Guide).

How do I borrow & return books?

You can borrow books and other library items using your student ID card. There are self-service machines in all campus libraries.

You can borrow Standard Loan items for 28 days (unless recalled). Books in high demand may be borrowed for shorter times eg. seven days or one day. You can borrow up to 15 items at a time. Items can be returned to any Edinburgh Napier University campus library.

How do I renew books?

To avoid getting fines, make sure you return or renew your books before the due date.

Remember to renew your borrowed items

Renew online using LibrarySearch. Sign in and enter your University login, then click My Account. You will see all the times currently on loan to you. Check the box to the left of the item and Renew Selected to renew a single item, or Renew All.

Telephone: 0131 555 6021

Sighthill LRC Help Desk

In person: ask at any Library Help Desk

Avoid getting fines

You will be charged if you don't return items on time. You can avoid these charges by renewing the item (as long as it hasn't been requested) or by returning it to us on or before the due date. If you have fines it will affect your ability to borrow or renew items and eventually to graduate.

Help! Can't find the book you want?

If all copies of the book you want are on loan to other people, you can make a request online using LibrarySearch. Check if there is an ebook version available or try using key words to see what other books the library has in this subject area.

Books from other libraries

If you are searching for a book or other item which is not available at Edinburgh Napier University, check other local Edinburgh libraries.

If the item you want is not available locally, ask about our Inter-Library Loan service.

Self-guided Library & IT audio tours

The tour takes about 20 minutes. You'll be shown how to find and borrow a book, familiarised with the library layout and locations of different collections. Then you will be shown around a computer suite. Tours are a great way to learn how to find and borrow books on your Reading List and to get to know what's available in the computer suites. Visit the library pages on mynapier to find out more.
