The Government has launched Call 6 of the Disruptive Technology and Innovation Fund (DTIF). The aim of the Fund is to encourage collaborations by the industry and research sectors into the development and commercialisation of ground-breaking technologies.
DTIF Call 6 welcomes applications from all research priority areas but particularly applications that complement the government’s priority enterprise policy objectives on digital transformation and on integrating decarbonisation and net zero commitments.
The deadline for applications is 3pm on 31 May 2023.
Enterprise Ireland launches €63 million in funding programmes
The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Simon Coveney TD, and Enterprise Ireland launched two new programmes with funding of over €63 million. The Innovators’ Initiative and KT Boost focus on supporting Irish innovators and research.
The programmes are administered by Enterprise Ireland, and co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) which aims to promote economic, social and territorial cohesion across all European regions.
Preparing your business for the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive
The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) arises from the European Green Deal’s climate change action objectives, to further enhance the disclosure by companies on climate and environmental data.
Ireland and other member states have until mid-2024 to transpose the directive, with a view to mandatory requirements commencing for financial years on or after:
- 1 January 2024 for companies and public interest entities in scope of EU non-financial reporting rules (greater than 500 employees)
- 1 January 2025 for other larger companies and public interest entities (greater than 250 employees)
- 1 January 2026 for listed SMEs, with an ‘opt out’ possible until 2028
Seminar on export controls compliance inspections
The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment will host an online event for business and industry representatives about export control compliance inspections on 24 March 2023.
These controls form part of a global framework designed to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, to preserve regional stability and to protect human rights.
Commencement of the Unitary Patent and Unified Patent Court system
Germany ratified the Unified Patent Court Agreement (UPCA), triggering the commencement of the Unitary Patent and Unified Patent Court system on 1 June 2023, and the start of the Sunrise period beginning on 1 March 2023.
Once the UPCA comes into force on 1 June 2023, applicants for European Patents will be able to access the alternative option of selecting a Unitary Patent covering the 17 EU member states that are participating in enhanced cooperation, and which have also ratified the UPCA.
NSAI achieves designation under the In Vitro Diagnostic Regulation 2017/746
In a landmark achievement, the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI) is now one of only 10 Notified Bodies in Europe under In Vitro Diagnostic Medical Devices Regulation (EU) 2017/746.
NSAI is now able to provide conformity assessments under the IVDR and grant CE marked certificates to the scope documented on the NANDO database.
