Headteacher Comment
I’d like to draw your attention to the upcoming ‘Children’s Mental Health Week’ that runs from 7th to 13th February (the last week of this term). We will be all dressing in mufti (non-uniform) on Friday 11th February - the theme is 'dress to express', so everyone can wear what they want. At Greenfields Primary School and Nursery we invest heavily in supporting children’s mental health all year round. Miss Mitchell has sent you today the Personal, Social and Health Education scheme that we use in school. It’s called Jigsaw and we have been using it for quite a number of years but it has recently been updated. Miss Mitchell is also going to be sending you termly Jigsaw newsletters with handy articles and links to the current Jigsaw theme.
This week we shared our singing expertise with leaders from other schools from East Northamptonshire: Charlotte Brosnan, who is our choir lead from London, led the staff training after school after working hard with the class choirs all day. We are very much looking forward to showcasing the amazing Greenfields singing for you once the weather improves and we have a ‘Spring Singing Safari’.
Thanks you for your continued support.

Games Club
After-school enrichment clubs have re-started and Miss Topps is hosting Games Club. The attendees play board games and this help them develop strategies that are useful in everyday life. The children love Scrabble and Jenga!
The Saints Come Marching In (to Greenfields)
Every Tuesday this term Year Three are coached by the amazing Northampton Saints Rugby coaches - they play exciting Tag rugby and learn develop a range of skills.
Angles and Sticks
Marvellous Meerkats have been exploring their new unit Geometry- they are learning all about angles and used lolly sticks to find right angles around the classrooms.
Big Greenfields Garden Birdwatch
Children from all across the school took part in the RSPB Big School Birdwatch on Wednesday morning. The children identified a range of birds using guides and apps then went inside and recorded what they had seen. The children were then treated to a delicious breakfast which was kindly provided by Tesco in Kettering. Thank you for organising this, Miss Green!
If you would like to take part, the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch carries on over the weekend - follow this link to find out more....
Does Gas Have a Mass?
This week in Science Year Five have been investigating whether gas has a mass. To find this out we needed to weigh a fizzy drink, and then stir it until it was ‘flat’. We then remeasured to see if there was a difference……guess what? Gas does have a mass!
Which season do you like best?
In Ladybirds, the children have been learning all about different seasons through lots of sensory play. They have talked about the clothes they may wear, the activities they do and the temperature felt in those seasons. Coloured rice, flowers and tools were used for planting in the spring tray. The children also painted ice cubes in the winter tray, listened to rustling sounds in the Autumn leaves tray and splashing around at the seaside in the summer tray. The class loved it!
Remembering the past
Year Six have been learning about the atrocities of the Holocaust and thinking about how groups of people were treated because of their faith. Greenfields has a very diverse culture and embraces everyone. The children were shocked at how the Jewish people of Europe were persecuted during the war. The children wrote about what Holocaust Memorial Day, celebrated internationally on the 27th January, meant to them.
Children's Mental Health Week
Greenfields Primary School and Nursery not only offer a world class education to our children but consider mental health and wellbeing are just as important to our children's education.
Children's Mental Health Week is taking place on 7-13 February 2022. This year's theme is Growing Together. To raise awareness we are asking our children and staff to "Dress to impress" on Friday 11th February 2022. Please send your child to school wearing their everyday clothing to express who they feel they are.

Teachers are looking forward to posting their ‘Flipping Greenfields’ videos every Friday next term in time for the weekend. Each one is all about next week’s learning, so will get your child prepared for a flying start on Monday. Research shows that children who feel prepared for the coming week are less anxious about school, happier to get up and go on a Monday morning and achieve better than those who are not.
