Johnston Community Primary School September 23rd 2022

Winter Approaches

The nights are starting to draw in quickly and it feels like winter is fast approaching. Where possible, we aim to use our outdoor spaces at break and lunch time. Please could children ensure that they bring a coat/jacket to school everyday.

School Flooding

On Tuesday, we arrived in school to discover that a pipe had burst. Unfortunately, our Years Three, Four and Five Classes were impacted. Pembrokeshire Country Council were fantastic at supporting the school and all repairs have now been completed. Luckily, the leak had only begun that morning, otherwise the damage would have been much more extensive!

Year Five Trip

Our Year Five trip to visit Carew Control Tower has been rearranged for 24th October.

Welsh National Opera

Year Five pupils are going to be working with the Welsh National Opera during the academic year 2022-2023. The Cradle Project introduces children to the topic of dementia with awareness sessions and opportunities to meet local people living with dementia, alongside a creative project where they will write songs with a composer on the topic of caring. The children will learn and perform their songs to an invited audience of parents and partners at the Torch Theatre in 2023.

On Monday, 26th September 15:20 – 16:25 we will be holding a Dementia Awareness Session for staff and parents. There is no need to register, if you would like to attend, please enter the hall through the main office door.

Online services: Exciting news for schools and parents

It’s the start of a new school year and we have been busy finding ways to make our online services better, to make your lives easier.

You can now use Alexa, Amazon’s voice service, to find out what is on the Pembrokeshire Primary school meals menu. Just ask Alexa what’s for lunch today or tomorrow to help you plan your children’s lunchtimes.

Plus, Alexa can also tell you which schools are closed across the county.

Find out more about how to start using the Pembrokeshire Council Alexa skill.

Cashless Catering

You said you wanted to see your school meals payment balance in real-time (not wait 24 hours for your balance to update), so we have introduced a real-time balance – meaning that you can now see how much money is in your children’s cashless catering accounts within 15 minutes of making the payment.

Fruit for Break Time

Fruit will be available in each class next week. Fruit costs 20p per day or £1 per week. We try and run the fruit shop to break even. If any money is left over it is used to buy things like marshmallows for the fire pit.

Uniform

Whilst uniform is not compulsory, we strongly encourage all pupils to wear school uniform daily. In recent years, some of our older pupils have started to move away from wearing uniform. It is important that we return to setting a high standard in this area.

If ever you would like to purchase any uniform from our recycling shop, please sent a note into school.

If you would like to donate any unwanted items of uniform, please drop them at the school office.

Click on this button to purchase different items of uniform.
