Cultural activities (by selected PSU students)
Typical USA house and neighborhood
The PSU students are creating videos about what a "typical" house and neighborhood looks like in the USA. Additionally in these videos they will include vocabulary, verbs and phrases that are related to the house and the neighborhood. In the USA, houses and neighborhoods are very different than those in Spain. The PSU students will prepare videos of their house and neighborhood. These videos will include a general layout of the house, overview of the neighborhood, the type of stores that are in a typical neighborhood, libraries, post offices, parks and schools. The videos will be both visual and include audio. The PSU students are directing these videos to your English language class. After the Tábara students view the videos, the PSU students would like for the students in Tábara to first compare and discuss the differences and then later share them with the PSU students.
Here is an example from last term:
What is American culture
In this course, PSU students are learning about how to define and identify culture. They will explore Spanish culture and will compare-contraste it to American culture. For this project they will prepare a video related to American Culture for the students in Tábara. They will pick any topic about American Culture that they think is important for the Tábara students to learn about. The purpose of this video is to encourage the Tábara students to learn how to appreciate and compare cultures.
