Superintendent's Summary DR. JACK PARKER ~ 10.31.22

You may have seen bulldozers and earth movers beginning their work on our property north of the middle school last week. As a part of our Future Growth Plan, we are developing 50 acres to our north and to our east in order to build a new elementary school and a new transportation center. This plan will also greatly improve the traffic around Mt. Vernon Middle School creating a new bus loop to the north and a very long queue for parents dropping off and picking up their children on the south side of the school. It is our plan that the traffic improvements will be completed by the start of next school year, and the new elementary school opened by the fall of 2025. At that time, Fortville Elementary will once again become an intermediate school housing grades 5 and 6 providing additional capacity for our three elementary schools and our middle school by removing a grade from each building.

MV Receives IDOE Grant to Attract & Retain Staff

The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) announced recipients of $10.6 million in funding, which will aid Indiana’s schools and community partners in supporting local initiatives to attract and retain educators in school buildings across the state. Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation is proud to partner with Ball State University and seven other school districts to be a recipient of the IDOE Attract, Prepare & Retain Grant!

Dr. Jack Parker, Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation Superintendent, shared, “In today’s competitive job market, it’s more important than ever to have an innovative approach to attracting and retaining staff. Schools need a full staff to be able to operate at an optimal level. We are very pleased to partner with Ball State University in this endeavor.”

Mt. Vernon High School Career Fair

Mt. Vernon High School (MVHS) students were encouraged to dream about their futures and were recently exposed to a variety of careers that align with academic pathways at MVHS. The one-day career exposure event, sponsored by the Mt. Vernon Education Foundation, offered a career exploration assembly to freshmen in the morning while sophomores and juniors were taking the PSAT. During this assembly, guest speakers from various career pathways shared detailed information about their jobs. In the afternoon, after student testing, all students attended a college and career fair where they were able to learn that it is never too early to start preparing for their futures.
