Let it Snow! nursery, aUTUMN tERM, week 14

What fabulously exciting weather we have had this week. The squeals of "IT'S SNOWING!!" and the mad rush to get coats on has been a highlight.

Catching snow on tongues.
A new white hairstyle.
Super smiles
It's cold but we love it.
Fascinated by catching the snow as it falls.
Watching the snowflakes drift down.

Our trip to the theatre was a success and we were so proud of the children on their first ever school trip with us. They joined in the show with enthusiasm.

Ready to go in.
We got to ride in the lift. Exciting stuff. And we only pressed the alarm button 'by mistake' twice.
Captivated.
It has put us in the right frame of mind for rehearsing our own show.

Back in class, the progress we are seeing in writing is phenomenal. It really brightens up our day to see our pupils actively choosing and enjoying writing tasks. We've written Christmas cards this week which of course has meant a little practice of writing of names.

Look at the left-to-right mark making and the individual symbols representing letters. Wow.
Playing spot the missing name and practising name recognition.
A little tracing before independent writing.
Counting the letters and staying the shapes intently.
A super example of what we like to see our nursery pupils writing look like at this stage of the year. This moves from left to right in a straight line and shows an intention to write letters. I am very impressed.

Our maths focus has been a fun one this week. We've been learning about capacity using words like 'full', 'empty', 'half full' and 'quarter full'.

Filling and emptying beakers.
This also makes for a brilliant sensory play experience, activating different areas of our brains and building brain power.
Of course, like most things in nursery, it was super messy. Good job we have lots of willing volunteers at tidy up time.

We have been busy with lots of Christmas crafts, but shhhh... they are secret surprises that the children have been making as presents. So I won't post any pictures other than this sneek peek.

Just beautiful.

One more week to go! It is our Christmas nativity on Tuesday, we hope to see you there. It is also our Christmas party on Friday, please bring in party food and the children are welcome to come dressed in any clothing they like.
