South Plains wins thirteenth championship title
Hutchinson, KS - South Plains wins the 2022 NJCAA DI Men's Outdoor Championship Title, the thirteenth in school history. After tieing with Barton (KS) last season, the Texans would not be denied as the sole champion as they scored a team total of 104.
The Texans put together an efficient week en route to their national title. They brought home national titles in the 400m hurdles, high jump, pole vault, the 4x800m, and 4x400m relay events.
Iowa Western earned second place with 85 points, and Barton rounded out the top-3 with 68 points. Coffeyville's 67.5 points earn them a fourth-place finish, and Butler (KS) earns fifth.
Texans dominate to claim the outdoor track title
South Plains' team put together an impressive performance in many different track and field events. The relay teams 4x400m and 4x800m relay teams each brought home titles and led the way for the Texans.
Freshman Caio Almeida brought home the gold in the 400m hurdles with a 52.00 mark. Chris Robinson also podiumed in fourth place in the event.
Pole vaulter Thomas Nieto came up just shy of tieing the national meet record, en route to a first-place finish with a 5.30m mark. Nieto finished in second place during last year's outdoor meet and would not be denied gold this year.
Reivers' impressive run ends in a runner-up finish
Iowa Western put together an impressive tournament by having multiple top-3 finishers throughout.
Courtney Watkins brought home the only individual title for Iowa Western, claiming gold in the 110 hurdles event with a mark of 13.65
Nemoy Cockett earned a second-place finish in the hammer throw with his 56.08m mark. Shakiel Dacres brought home the gold in the discus, with his 54.77 on his final throw.
Barton follows co-championship last season with a third-place finish
Barton came into the meet as the co-defending champion and put together another impressive performance. As a team, the Cougars won three individual titles.
Freshman Elijah Mosley won the 400-meter dash with a 47.22 mark.
The long jump event proved to be one of the best events for the Cougars. Freshman Anthony Woods and sophomore Shakwon Coke finished in the top-2 in the long jump. Woods earned a mark of 7.64m and Coke finished with a 7.55m mark.
