USF Park RX

what is park rx?

The idea behind Park Rx is to prescribe nature as medicine for treating and maintaining health & well-being.

Why nature?

Research has shown that green exercise, or physical activity in nature, is effective in reducing stress and improving mood (Park et al., 2010; Barton & Pretty, 2010)

Who is this for?

Park Rx is for anyone in our USF community who wants to receive the mental & physical health benefits of being in nature!

why?

USF Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is overflowing with students reaching out for counseling services. Park Rx provides a free & accessible alternative or additional solution to boosting mental & physical health! (Cornell Health, n.d.)

Background

Park Rx was created in part in our own backyard, at the Institute at the Golden Gate in 2013 to encourage practitioners to prescribe nature in order to improve mental and physical health.

Campus Nature Rx exists to promote nature prescriptions on college campuses across the nation to improve the health and well-being of college students.

The number of college students seeking mental health care has more than doubled within the past 10-12 years. (Center for Collegiate Mental Health, 2022)
